Windows 11 Pro
If I go to Settings > System > Sound > All Sound Devices.
Then I click on all output and input devices.
Under General > Audio > "Allow apps and Windows to use this device for audio", mine are all set to "Don't Allow".

Is this too restrictive?

The same here except for 'stereo mix' which is set to 'allow'.

Oh, yeah, I missed that one.
But it doesn't seem to make sense to have all the other devices prevented from allowing Windows and apps using audio by default.

It's Microsoft being confusing again. Windows and apps are allowed by default but if you want to prevent them then you click on the 'Don't' allow tab.

No. The switch shows that you can 'Don't Allow' it as it is already 'Allowed'. They'd be better off with a simple On/Off switch.
Edit, 'stereo mix' is off so to enable it you would set the switch to 'Don't Allow'.

If I go to Settings > System > Sound > All Sound Devices.
Then I click on all output and input devices.
Under General > Audio > "Allow apps and Windows to use this device for audio", mine are all set to "Don't Allow".

Is this too restrictive?
If you click on it, you will get a popup stating that the device is being used.
