Because they're not paying me for it, that's why. It's as simple as that. If somebody wants my info, then pay me for it.
Why should I give out freebies to companies and services that I don't even use? After all I'm a product and people are supposed to pay for products. Right?
And in the United States, companies are considered 'people', a screwed up legal concept (that I think is unique to the world), but there ya have it.

I will put in whatever tools I can to block some of it. Like logging into a generic local Windows account, for starters. I don't need the scarlet letter of an email address following me all around everywhere. I consider it one less thing I have to give them.
