Am I the only one here crazy enough to use Windows 11 as a daily driver?

I'm loving it so far, I haven't encountered a single GSOD/BSOD since installing! The upgrade process went smoothly and I was able to activate it using my old Windows 10 Pro key.

No.. I use it daily and so far I have no issues with it. Should I, likely not but why not? I can reinstall 10 if something goes wrong.

No, I am using it on my main laptop. It is much snappier and has a lot of the things that I didn't like about Windows 10 fixed like the animations are so fluid, the sounds are much better, you can now search for file extensions in app defaults like .PDF to quickly jump to the entry. I hate Windows 10 so much, this is a God sent gift.

Being a leaked build I'm going to wait until MS officially releases it. For now I'm using it in a VM. The only program and app that I have installed is KeePass and ShowKeyPlus.

No, as I have a laptop I can install it on to really test is on bare metal.

I haven't had time to make a full backup, and until I do, I'm not installing it on my desktop - but as soon as I get that done, I'm going ot see what happens if I attempt to upgrade my 21H1 to 21996.1.

FWIW.. Win 11 is just working and I've not encountered any issues so far. I'll keep on playing with it but as of now I like it. Again, YMMV.

I tried it, did not like the lack of things like moving my taskbar to top and in spite of saying I would not loose some apps I had to reinstall several including driver for Epson printer, Translucent TB and Open Shell to replace Start menu. Also it forced install of OneDrive which I do not use. I may try it again when the "Real Windows 11" Comes out. Now back to Windows 10 21H1.

Hi there
Being a leaked build without 100% provenance that it actually came from Ms (although probably 99.99999% certain that it is - otherwise why would Ms be so robust in issuing "take down notices" on search engines and the like where it finds references to the W11 iso )

Sill would you trust an "Everyday computer" --essentially a "production status" machine running software of this type with an unknown or un proveable provenance to run this OS. Fine on test machines, Virtual machines etc etc.

Cheers
jimbo

I look at it this way,
1 It's likely from MS so I'll trust it.
2 Worst case, I have to replace the OS and software and that wouldn't take much time for me.
3 I got an update to .Net so I guess that kind of proves it's a legit version

My plan is to reinstall Win 10 today and then install the MS version of Win 11 when it comes out. It's time for me
to clean up my PC and then I can play with the new OS,, whatever they finally call it.

As I wrote in my leak thread - I'm waiting until Microsoft gives us a build directly to play with. Then it's on.

I'm with John. I'm running only a VM at the moment, but let's see what happens tomorrow.

I do have a machine that I can sacrifice to the beta gods. It's an older machine with a 4th gen core i7 but it has 32GB RAM and nice fast NVMe storage so that might be a good test bed :)

My question is if this copy will receive regular updates.. For example if MS release newer build on 24th, will this build get update to that?, since i already activated it and everything.

I'm guessing here - but I suspect that Microsoft will push out updates to this build to a newer, more official build in the coming weeks.

I hate almost everything that they have done to the taskbar in 11, and I know about the workarounds so kindly provided by Shawn. I have depended on the Taskbar's Desktop Toolbar since Windows 7 Starter (on a netbook, with its tiny screen) thru 8 & 8.x and on to 10. I never liked the start menu, or a cluttered desktop, which was the way that XP eventually had me working. I avoided the Windows 8 Start, and Charms fiasco with it, almost entirely, and during Windows 10 reign, I had little use for the Start Menu, using the desktop toolbar and Win+x almost exclusively for almost all functions, with a few pinned programs on the taskbar. Here's my Eightforums post on it: I don't miss Start Menu at all: Here's Why, with my favourite screenshot from the post showing access to a file (not using Windows Explorer, within a zipped folder, 6 levels deep, with a single click on the desktop toolbar, and mouseover to the target, another 7 levels deeper, where another click would open it, if possible:

I will really miss this functionality, not seeing all my desktop free of icons, or if I want a clear desktop, not having instant access to those items, having again my taskbar full of pinned apps overflowing into two rows, taking up screen real estate. Even the action center pop-up (or is it now Quick settings?) in the bottom right part of the taskbar has lost its screen snip feature). Ho hum, I may be staying with 10 for the next few years., and PowerShell has been relegated from Win+x menu to Windows Tools in Control Panel!

I always use Start menu's search for whatever app I wanted, and in conjunction with Xplorer² as my default FM, Win 11 is tolerable for me. It' is still irritating when I run into various things, and I know at least one other person (@Try3 ) who also mentioned the menu system explicitly, and so many other little things - but it's the first released build.

Use the feedback app and tell them you don't like not having that - the more people that report it the better chance that they might listen.
