I use a Logitech Anywhere MX Mouse with my Laptop
(it's the smaller Laptop Mouse)
The Dongle is about 6 inches away from my Mouse.
Only time I have problems is when the Batteries are
on their way out.
The Anywhere MX Mouse is by far the Best Mouse I've ever used.

**BTW, I'm still using the Original Anywhere MX, they (Logitech)
are (I believe) on the 3 Generation of this series, so I really can't
comment on the newer generations.

I will say that the Full-Sized Anywhere MX that came with
the MX 5500 Revolution Combo I had was a great mouse
too!
I stopped using my Desktop Computer about two years
ago, so I gave this combo to my daughter.
The Dongle was always plugged into the Back of the Computer
and I never had a connection problem.
This Desktop Computer only had USB1 & USB2, maybe this was
why I didn't have a problem?

Every once in a while, my cordless mouse doesn't want to wake my computer. I think it is, the mouse it's self. The little green light doesn't come on like it should all the time when the mouse is moved. I'm going to replace it.

I've used only laptops for the past 25 years and I can use a built-in touchpad faster than I can use an external mouse.

Wow, I'm the opposite. I used to despise touchpads, only using them because I had to. The new Precision Touchpads mandated by Microsoft are a lot better. Whenever practical, I use a wireless mouse with my laptop.

Of course, it could be worse. You could be using one of those stick pointers that Lenovo is so fond of.

I completely understand. My wife is totally crippled without her Logitech mouse. I used a mouse for decades before deciding to learn the touchpad after watching someone who really knew what he was doing.

Most people think they have to push down and make the touchpad click like they do a mouse. Not true. A left click is a light one finger tap. A right click is a light two finger tap. No pressing is involved with a good touch pad. Just a very light tap. That's how I get my speed.

My biggest blunder is steering the pointer around gracefully with one finger!
I just found that a light 3 finger tap is a middle click! (y)

Yep, and I set a 3 finger scroll to be sound volume up and down., Now that's handy.

In the following YouTube video starting at 3:40 it is suggested that you use a USB extension cable to minimize interference and performance problems with your wireless mouse.
You've Been Using Your Mouse Wrong.

The same thing is suggested in a Logitech Q&A,
Operating distance between mouse and USB receiver
In an ideal environment, your mouse can operate up to 30 feet (10 meters) from the USB receiver in a clear line of sight. If you're not getting this distance, try these suggestions:
  • Replace the batteries with a fresh set
  • Use one of our optional USB extenders to move the receiver into a better position
  • Move devices that could cause radio interference, such as cell phones, radios, wireless routers, and microwaves, away from your work area
To determine if something in your environment is shortening your operating range, try using your mouse in a different location to see if the distance improves. If it does, look for other possible sources of interference that you can remove from your desired work area.

Newer touchpads are slightly better, but I still can't get anywhere near the precision need from a touchpad to do even basic graphics work. Click-n-drag is a real drag with a touchpad. Not to mention, there's not enough real estate on a touchpad unless you crank up the travel speed and that kills precision even more.

Mouse for me, all day long.

I identify with your wife. I have a mouse that travels with my laptop, I hate the stupid touchpad! I was sort of getting used to the IBM Thinkpad eraser, but that locked me in to buying a specific brand of laptop.

I normally have the touchpads on my laptops disabled.
Now you've got me wondering, did I disable this Touchpad when I purchased this Laptop?
Nope, It's still enabled (been using this Laptop for about 2 years and 4 months and didn't notice).
I would have normally messed something up on a laptop by now having the touchpad enabled,
and this laptop has a pretty large touchpad.
Guess I'm getting better at avoiding the touchpad!

I think I'd use the Touchscreen before I'd use the Touchpad and the Touchscreen IMO is
more of a PITA!
I only use the Touchscreen when I'm using the Laptop like a Tablet (2-in-1).
But most of the time I use this like a Laptop and my Logitech Anywhere MX Mouse goes
everywhere the laptop goes!

I've been using Logitech Wireless Mice ever since the First 3 Button Mouse!
Pretty sure I still have that 3 Button Mouse in the closet in my Office.
