Solved Anomalies in running a Driver Backup

With reference to the image below –

I did a clean install of Windows 11 22H2 on 1 July '23 using a bootable USB drive created from the latest MCTs.

A Dell Support Tech has assured me that ALL my drivers are up to date.

So, my question I, why is the back up trying to process non-existent drivers?

Backup and Restore Device Drivers in Windows 11

Create a folder on your Desktop called: My Drivers

Then run this command, from an elevated command prompt...
dism /online /export-driver /destination:"C:\Users\<user name>\Desktop\My Drivers"

Afterwards, you can store the My Driver folder, where ever you want.




This worked no problem for me. So if it doesn't work for you... it's probably a DELL thing. :/

This worked for me on Win 10 as well...




I'm thinking that the PnPUtil may not work with a DELL computer?
Whichever option you use from the tutorial, you need to create the destination folder BEFORE you run the command.

The probable answer is the oldest version of the same driver (by name) was incorrectly cleaned up by some tool.
Notice the number sets are sequential (37, 38, 39 not found), (58, 59, 61 found).

I agree it might be a Dell update tool glitch.

After your clean install did you per chance update your Realtek drivers? IMO that looks like nothing more than 3 old Realtek WavesMax drivers that were updated but a reference to the old driver was left in the registry.
They are not for non-existant devices.They were replaced with the drivers that are active and backed up for that device. (example oem58.inf replaced oem37.inf in the driverstore but for some reason did not remove the oem37.inf reference in the registry.)

Yes I did.

Following the advice given by @Ghot, and others. I changed the back up command from

pnputil /export-driver * "X:\Windows 11 System Drivers"​

to

dism /online /export-driver /destination:"X:\Windows 11 System Drivers"

which has cleared the issue.

However, I ran the following series of commands before changing the back up method

rundll32.exe pnpclean.dll,RunDLL_PnpClean /drivers/maxclean
dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
sfc /scannow
dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
