Anyone video editing on Surface Laptop 7 arm?

I am wondering if anyone in here is video editing on their Laptop 7 with arm processor? What are your experiences like with it?

Your computer specs under your profile mention a Dell XPS Desktop but no mention of a Surface Laptop 7 Model # or it's specs? (e.g.) Processor, RAM, Storage Type, SSD, nVME etc or as stated, what software you are using to edit videos.
Most modern laptop should easily edit video with most standard video apps.
Are you having issues editing videos?

Anyone video editing on Surface Laptop 7 arm?

Microsofts answer to lacking behind the editing power of Apple Mac. I remember the ads when they first appeared, with editing movies for major productions as the selling point. I chuckled.
I couldn’t think of anything worse than trying to edit video on a laptop.

I use my Desktop, 7 monitors (6 + 1 Wacom Cintiq 24” touch Tablet)

I suppose if you had extra monitors connected, at least 2, it would be bearable.

Video editing on any low performance consumer-market laptop is SLOW, surface or otherwise. It can be done, but it's like using a pickup truck to tow a semi-trailer.

The X elite with 32 or 64 gb of ram is hardly "low performance" supposedly.

Are you having issues editing videos?

My dell laptop died so I am looking for a replacement. I am deciding between something like the surface or I may get a macbook as they are VERY VERY good at editing photos / videos / other creative workflows. I still have my XPS but I am wanting a replacement for my laptop that can do these things while we are remote.

I have a SurfacePro 2025. The Windows\Microsoft editing software is deficient at the best of times no matter what device so I use several other 3rd party options, but on the SPro as an absolute last resort (e.g. as an on-site emergency). Otherwise, desktop. I certainly wouldn't be relying on the SPro as the prime editing device.

EDIT
And if you're already using 3rd party multimedia software, need to check it can be installed on ARM devices

Ok, so don't bother with a surface laptop for doing creative workflows. Macbook it is. Even the air can rip through 4k timelines with grading and effects without a hiccup if you get 24gb of ram or more. I was hoping it was the same for the surface.

I'm thinking that you're just asking for opinions from user's that are doing any video editing with a Laptop 7 with a arm processor. If I'm correct then as you said, "Can't be that hard" for someone to answer your question.

I know right. I can't do it either. ha ha. I watched a couple of videos on the new dell plus systems. From what I could see, they can do what I need. I need to edit 3 streams of 4k footage from 3 sony ZV-1 cameras for our vlogcast/podcast. The new intel chips with arc 140 will do the job quite nicely. Export times are a little longer than the macbook by 2 or 3 minutes. That's acceptable.

I got my laptop back up and running but I don't trust it anymore to do any work on. It's an 1165g7 which is close to the M1 in all metrics besides battery life.

Just an update on those dell systems. Reading owners experiences on dells website with them, and they have the same issues I have with my current system. Not turning on and having to reboot the system multiple times to get it to boot to windows, screen going weird colors and then freezing and having to reboot then into the boot loop spiral again. 85% of the time my current system works fine, but the rest of those times is what kills it for me.

There are certain features I want in my laptop and this current laptop I am using has all of them but the reliability is not there. The new Surface has the same features I want but I am afraid of the arm processors for video editing. I would be running 3 streams of 4k footage through it for our vlogcast/podcast. I want reliability so that when I am working on it I dont feel like I have to rush because I don't know when I am going to get the crazy screen of death on it.
