So many sites trying and sucker people in with what seems like interesting products - BUT then there's always - usually hidden or hard to see a BUY or PURCHASE option which means the software you want is NOT FREE / or has limited functionality or limited use time.

Any add-ins to any browser that can quckly scan a target website - and refuse to connect if the words BUY or PURCHASE appear anywhere on it. !!!!

I'm not anti commercial software BUT SAY SO UP FRONT PLEASE !!!!!!.

I mean if you can dream it up someone can probably make it. Is there really a big interest, unlikely. Why not just an internet search or GenAI tool and ask I want free/open source solution for X?

Best to get one of those precharge cards that does not work when the funds are exhausted. What I hadn't realised was that a direct debit based on a credit or debit card continued to be valid even after the card has expired.
But I think free trials are still OK if you remember to cancel the DD when you don't find the software useful. But, like most people, I find these 'free download' offers deceptive. Generally I avoid them like stepping on a spiny toad or scorpion fish.

Or try AppBlock extension or the Content Shield Master extension for Edge. Or you could try Microsoft Family Safety for Edge

You could also see if there is a way to do it via the Hosts file

I use a Wise Visa pay and go debit card which is pretty global I rarely carry my main debit card anymore.

I just top it up with about £100 periodically. If my wallet gets stolen, I am limited to the amount of financial loss I can get.

Another method on long term subscriptions, I use paypal subscriptions which are easy to cancel.

I had one subscription on me debit card and I tried to cancel it and bank said I would have to get vendor to stop it.

Problem was I had no easy way of contacting vendor. Eventually I worked out how to change payment to paypal and then immediately stopped it.

Even with a pre paid credit card you might find that you have entered a binding contract. I always set a calendar reminder to cancel any trials after the set period.

I use credit cards, never debit cards. That limits my financial loss to whatever cash I happened to have in my wallet. As long as you're fiscally responsible and pay off the CC every month, you usually actually get 1-2% on most purchases back, what's not to like?

Credit Cards get a bad rap, not because they're bad, but because people have no self-control and abuse them! :unsure:

Agree about Paypal, but would never use a debit card.
In the USA, most credit cards have a zero liability for fraudulent use, so I always use those.

Communicate with the vendor, if possible.
When I purchased my lifetime license for eM Client, I had a lengthy and very supportive email communication with them so that they understood, that I understood, what I was getting!
