This week I had 5 updates including Intel Bluetooth, Net, Nvidia Display and Audio drivers. I spent some time with MS support trying to get details of what these drivers were for and why Windows update is pushing them out instead of the manufacturer. I got no where (In fact the best I got was the Driver is for your NVIDA DIsplay, yep very descriptive).
Are there no longer any details about what the updates are for or why they are introduced. Certainly in the case of NVIDIA the version matches nothing on NVIDA driver pages, however I did find some people having problems with the Windows update NVIDIA 27.21.14.5671 this was one of the updates.
So the question really is how to prevent some of the Windows updates from being installed specifically Hardware drivers?
Thanks

This week I had 5 updates including Intel Bluetooth, Net, Nvidia Display and Audio drivers. I spent some time with MS support trying to get details of what these drivers were for and why Windows update is pushing them out instead of the manufacturer.
The updates are provided by the OEMs to Microsoft who test them, then deliver through Windows Update. I've even had optional bios updates for my Dell laptops through Windows Update.
So the question really is how to prevent some of the Windows updates from being installed specifically Hardware drivers?
I had a similar problem with the AMD Radeon Graphics drivers. Windows Update would install an older one, breaking my 'AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition'. I found that if I rolled back the video driver to the previous (newer) one then Windows Update would not try to reinstall the MS one.

If that doesn't work, I can confirm that wushowhide.diagcab works in Windows 11, I've used it to block some other drivers. I had to hide this one because it is incompatible with Core Isolation.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

Look at the last 5 numbers and you'll see it.

But, that is a really, really old driver (released well before Windows 11 was officially released, as seen in this link:

I suggest that you get a better, more optimized driver from nVidia directly for your RTX 3090. Here is a direct link to the most current driver.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I hate Microsoft updating my Hardware drivers as they are rarely if ever the latest releases.
I have no answer as to why MS were forcing me to install the hardware update for NVIDIA no options to skip it and MS not giving me information on exactly what it was.
So I eventually installed and low and behold Nvidia Geforce Experience told me I needed a Driver update.
Why cant they leave my system hardware alone, years of problems in Win10 with Audio updates to my Turtle Beach system that always had to be rolled back and the old driver reinstalled.

Fixed by using the Enable or disable included drivers with windows Update as described by glasskuter option 2.
Will use WUSHOWHIDE as a backup.
For reference from Windows update history.
