AOL and Yahoo seem to have it in for me - send my email to Spam

Amongst those on my mailing list are a handful whose email address is [email protected] or [email protected]. Both of these quite frequently route my emails to their spam folders. If any other addresses do the same I am not aware of it. And even with AOL and Yahoo it doesn't happen every time.

The Yahoo one is the biggest problem because I regularly (monthly) send the copy for the parish magazine which I edit and DTP. That is sent as a print ready PDF and I often have to email the print shop owner asking if he got it. Oddly he gets that even on the same Yahoo address. The AOL one is more random and emails there rarely have attachments.

Going back a couple of decades or so I vaguely recall AOL having a bad reputation because, amongst other things, they were primarily a content provider, with an add on mail service.

Or is this just bad luck?

The recipient has to mark your emails as not spam.
AOL and Yahoo get over zealous if left to themselves.

I have suggested that to them. I don;t think they know how!

AOL at least has switched from the basic view to a view that makes no sense, and is hard to understand.

On my system, the ones that go to the "spam" the most are ".gmail.com" addresses. And they seem to deserve it. At least on the email addresses that I handle.

I have two ."yahoo.com" and two ".gmail".com addresses. The ".gmail.com" addresses never get any spam, but one of the ."yahoo.com" addresses does. Mostly, the spam it gets comes from a old ".msn" address that I thought was deleted 15 years ago.

I use my web browser, Chrome, to read mail. Yahoo seems to be very efficient and very seldom does email, that isn't spam, go to the "spam" folder. It's usually obvious from the title that it is spam. Once in the spam folder, I mark them as "blocked". Currently I have 778 blocked email addresses. Most of which are ".gmail.com" addresses but many others are there.

@Sigurd - how many emails are you sending out from the yahoo address?
If you send out 100's, you're [possibly] getting blacklisted and the recipients email provider is being notified.
IF you have a legitimate church newsletter, there are ways to get you whitelisted.
I had to deal with this at a firm that sent out MILLIONS of [monthly statement] emails. We went thru a provider that handled whitelisting so the customers [many, many domains involved] could receive the email stating "your monthly statement is now available" notices.

I'm not sending any from a Yahoo address. It is a Yahoo address that I send them to that routes them to spam. My sending address is my own domain. It is the same address I have been using from the same ISP since I created the first village web site way back in 1997. Plenty of time to have been black listed!

Hi, Sigurd.

What type of domain interface do you have access to, to control your domain? Do you know what the interface is called, is it cPanel (Control Panel), DirectAdmin, CloudPanel, hPanel, Plesk, Webmin, Ispmanager… non of these?

I am just curious how much control you have with your domain. What settings you have in regards to setting up your email addresses?
It would do you well to look at the following protocols for email accounts/addresses (email authentication methods)

DMARC, DKIM, and SPF. Also take a look at email authentication. If your email address isn’t setup properly, certain, if not most receiving servers will mark you as spam.

Alternatively, Sigurd you could start a support ticket (is that available to you?) and ask them to help you with email authentication, and DMARC, DKIM, SPF if available, due to your emails being marked as spam on receiving servers.

Settings are different for different providers. If you want to send me a message (Start a conversation) and tell me who they are, I can look into it for you. But the support ticket is a wise way forward.
