You misunderstand. I am not talking about opening the image as a virtual drive but opening the image as a virtual machine so you can run the contents in the image like your host pc.

You can of course restore images to a virtual machine if you boot from a Reflect WinPe iso, and set up vhds etc. The feature in Reflect (Viboot) just does all that more or less automatically - much slicker.

Well, that sux! I went to the trouble of downloading, installing, and trying to run Aomei Backupper Free and got this report:

I am on a Dual Boot (Windows 10 & Windows 11 Insider DEV Channel), so that may be the problem.

I was so looking forward to using this for my mostly beginner students. :(

Aomei Backupper doesn’t support backing up/cloning drives with 4096 bytes per sector. Have you checked this?

Also in Windows settings , go to : Device security / Core isolation details and disable it.

You can enable the “Memory integrity” feature again after the backup.

The only device I don't use AOMEI on is my RCA 2 in 1 tablet. It has an eMMC solid state drive which is not compatible with AOMEI. I have never had an issue on anything else. I don't think dual boot makes a difference.

The drives on this computer are just as they came, so probably not 4096 per sector. The main one is a 500 GB SSD and the Data drive is a 1 TB storage drive.

I just checked the file system info and they're all NTFS 512 bytes per sector.

I just installed the trial version and making my first backup. I have Core Isolation turned on; I don't know why it isn't working for you.

Am I supposed to wait until December 20 to register? I plugged the code into the registration box and it failed. I tried cut and paste and when that failed, I typed it in. Still failed.

The "readme" does say from December 20 . . .

I just checked and Core Isolation is turned on in Windows 11. Also, Intel just sent a couple new display things to me, so I'll try again with the Trial version this time.

I'm wondering if I can re-download the free Pro version (1 year) for Windows 11. I may try that just to see if it will work, since I can't get Core Isolation to work on Windows 10. Something about a couple Brother drivers that are blocking it. :(

I personally use a promotional code and registered my trial version without any problem to PRO version.
If you want to try let me know and I will pm you the address to the site with the promotion. It's a German
site, but you can use edge to translate it. (it will allow you to have pro version and get updated for one year)

I had to disable the WD SES driver in Device Manager to get Core Isolation to work.

From what I have found doing searches is that the driver is only needed if someone wants to use the encryption option on the drive. WD should give us the option to disable the SES driver if we don't want to encrypt our drive.

So, if I disable the two Brother drivers and the WD one, will they still work? Or will I have to re-enable/disable, etc. forever?

So far, I'm batting around a zero with Aomei Backupper on Windows 11:

1. The Standard version can't find the drive(s) to back up.

2. The Trial version I downloaded and installed today says it's expired. I have never tried Aomei before, so what's that all about?

3. I downloaded and installed the freebie Pro version but the product key says it's invalid. The only thing I can think of is that maybe I have to wait until tomorrow (valid from December 20, 2021 to December 31, 2022) to install.

At this point, I'm about ready to give up, although I'm pretty sure it would be a good thing for my students.

I guess I'll meander over to Windows 10 and see if I can disable the invalid drivers, then maybe the standard version will work on 10?

I know the WD External drives will still work.
