I'm not overly concerned with people knowing who I am. I'm more concerned about sensitive information. Nobody likes to get scammed. Nobody likes idiots breathing down their necks either. Privacy and property are inseparable. MS doesn't give a flying rip about my proprietary rights. All those security settings are more for them than they are for me.

People have become, or are happily reliant on Windows. It’s the framework for everything they want to do in regards to computing. The best software, or the most popular software is written for Windows.
So it’s not a choice for most. Privacy is a myth and no matter what people say they do to Windows to achieve it, my opinion is that they’re kidding themselves.
You want to be totally autonomous using Windows? Never, ever connect to the internet.

I agree completely. O+O ShutUp 10 ++ should be installed and configured on every Windows 11 install. I install it on each PC I work on.

I don't agree with "privacy is a myth", a more accurate statement would be, "there are many different levels and types of privacy".

Clearly there can be differences of opinion on any number of topics.
Layered security, layered types of privacy, and for some, just sit back and let things be. We all get to choose our position and stance. The beauty is being who we want, configuring as we see fit, and using our PCs as we like.

I would venture to say that absolute privacy is a myth. Even if you're not on the net. Even if you don't own a phone, tablet, PC, or communication device. It matters not. You could be a hermit living in the bush and there's still no absolute privacy. That said we all have a measure of privacy and those who say they've nothing to hide are deluding themselves.

I stated earlier that I don't mind people knowing who I am. I do mind unauthorized people having access to my sensitive information. I greatly mind it when they try to own my property and my hardware is MY property. When MS starts interfering with what I do on my PC outside of their OS they're breaching my trust. That's why TPM is such a ruse. I used to be able to run other operating systems in multiple boot configurations simply by selecting "other OS" in my BIOS. That's not so easy to do anymore.

Since I wasn't planning to drag my desktop around town showing off the exciting new windows 11 look (gag) I'd prefer it simply work at least as well as 3 generations ago. But that isn't the case. Functionality was brutally sacrificed on the altar of vanity.

My point seems to remain: everyone is happy with win11 after they tweak everything back to win7. What's left is cosmetic. Whether you put lipstick on the pig or wear rose colored glasses wouldn't change your point of view.

Windows 7 was great, and now Windows 11 with appropriate tweaks is decent. I can see why your moniker is Win711 -the better later year Windows.
Windows 11 Pro does seem better to me after much tweaking, and I do think I enjoy it as much as my much loved Windows 7 Pro

24H2 is fine - couple of minor irritating bugs but the most annoying the three dot FE bug can be fixed using vivetool.

4GB is ok provided not using RAM intensive apps, lots of open browser tabs etc.
There are many low end 4GB emmc devices that run ok.
My travel laptop used for MS Office, and light browsing mostly works fine.

Actually W11 can be run on pcs with RAM as low as 2 GB - the official minimum spec.

I have experimented in a Hyper-V VM with RAM as low as 0.5 GB and it still runs albeit very slowly.

When I first got Win 7 Ultimate I was flabbergasted at how smooth and responsive it was for such a comprehensive operating system. It was not cheap but it was reliable, durable, and dependable. Yes, sometimes it was necessary to manually install some drivers for third party software and additional hardware. Man, I would rather that than have to perform surgery on an operating system just to get ownership of my hardware back. So much unnecessary garbage comes with the operating systems that follow Windows 7. I suppose it would be foolish to ask why they didn't just leave the Win 10 key logger in the Windows store as an option for users to download and let Windows record their every keystroke. I might guess that if they did the same with Cortana that most folks would tire of her and uninstall her anyway. I might well imagine that the inking and telemetry and all the bloatware that came with the later operating systems would have been neglected and that users would not have made Microsoft accounts if they were not so rudely coerced into doing so. Well, I could go on but, I mean look at the bright side of it . . . Where would we be without One Drive?? Just kidding. I rather doubt that we will ever see an impressive game changer like Win 7 ever again.

Deities Fangs - what percentage of users tweak W11 to look like W7? I would be surprised if it is as even high as 5% of users.

Vast majority just use it as it is! I do not know a single person who tweaks it to look like W7.

So your "point" is just rubbish, just FUD.

BTW:-

1) bloat is bs - it only really meant something in days when drives were much smaller.

2) W7 was far more buggy than W11 - people forget how often it crashed.

3) W10 was far more buggy than W11 - it took about 2-3 years before W10 was stable. W11 was very stable from the word go.

i use NTlite to admin the Win ISO this is then burned to USB with Rufus. the ISO is about 1GB smaller then the default ISO.
windows debloat (github) is then used. i disable about 50 odd services disable most tasks in task scheduler.
winearo and wintoys to set the system the way i want it along with about a dozen of Blinks Reg file changes.
after that i block what i cant stop via the firewall and look at ways to get rid of it.
only software i want, which is mostly open source, is installed.
Windows will work my way come what may ..

Loved XP! That was the first OS I actually bought. I still have the cd in the original packaging with product code that I got from googlegear circa 2001. Remember googlegear.com?

A couple guys seated behind a table at some computer expo I went to way back then asked what OS I was using. I said I recently upgraded to win98. In unison they said "WHY??? Win95 is faster!" LOL

I think it's always been the case that each new version is a little slower simply because there is more code to execute. You either have to upgrade hardware or consider the bloat useful enough to justify the drag. I think we crossed the peak tradeoff with win7 and now, not only is it useless bloat, but counterproductive bloat.

Horse shoes and hand grenades - The very first thing I did when I installed Win 11 on my main was move that menu off to the left where it belongs — you know, the way it looks in good old fashioned Windows 7? I miss Aero Glass but I suppose budget cuts wouldn't allow for it because they couldn't make it work right with Arm. ::: shrugs::: can't have it all, I guess. (At least not anymore.)

BTW

1) Bloat really is bs. If only MS would come out with a bare bones OS that allowed me to download and install the apps I would actually use I wouldn't have to put up with so much B.S. Bloatware is still very much a thing and not everyone uses 1TB drives even today.

2) When Windows 7 crashed it was generally pretty easy to recover. When Win11 crashes have fun getting it back. Then again, one need not worry much about it because the next distro *cough* "version" should be coming again any time soon. Cross your fingers, here it comes...

3) I really do have to agree on W10. In fact, I disliked it so much I never did install it on my main. That's why I now run a 7-11. Pity that so much surgery had to be done to get it to run on my archaic 6900K CPU but then I'm sure it would be better than removing all the trash and bloatware that came with W10. Yeah, okay. W11 gets points for stability. Now if they could only make something that stable that didn't require so much tweaking! Alas, Win 11 does not nearly run so smooth on this unit as my Win 7 U does but I suppose that is to be expected. I wonder if I ran out and got another top of the line processor chip and another EATX system board and another 128 Gigs of system memory if it would run smoother. That should only run me around what... another 5K? I wonder how long it would be good for before Windows decided that it couldn't support their new OS. Another five years? Oi, weh! Too rich for my blood! I wonder if this sort of thing isn't going to become a trend. I'm really beginning to wonder a lot about Windows these days.

My win7 pc has been running since 2011. The only time I ever had a crash was after upgrading from 8gb to 16gb ram without turning off interleaving in the bios.

But my main point is not crashing but counterproductive changes such as adding extra steps to automatically rename files moved to a folder with files of the same name.
