Have a look on Chris Titus winutil (windows toolbox)
You can easy change so you only get security updates.. or you can disable windows update and manually install updates.
it also contains tools to debloat windows so you easy can remove unwanted apps

I'll have to look into the others on your list but I removed the xbox stuff on my system before 23H2

Funny but I didn't pay much attention when people were complaining abouts ads. I think that's because I turned them off using O+O ShutUp 10++

My first computer was an IBM 7070 in '62. My first "PC" I believe was a RS.My first IBM PC was on dos 3.11. Then 95, 98, 7, mx, vista, 8, etc. XP and 7 were nice.
I was on 10 but kept trying 11 but kept actually using Mint during that phase. About the 4th time I stayed and tried to use the default setup. A couple changes, but, yes, finally, I like win11 and don't have linux around any more(at the moment).

Wow that's a lot of history Krism

My first PC I'm not sure what it was. It had a cassette tape built into it for saving files. I was pretty young and didn't have anyone to show me anything, but did manage to write a couple rudimentary basic programs, save them, and somehow manage to cue the tape back up to reload them.

I have been on every version of windows since the beginning, and before that DOS. I really haven't had a problem with any version except version 8. Version 8.1 was somewhat of an improvement but not a big one! I think I like Windows 11 better than most versions. When if and when 12 comes out, I will definitely be checking it out.

funny i found WinME very good but you had to understand what Windows Protected File System was.
it was a hidden 'NON-DOS' partition (aka NTFS) which held the recovery drivers for the system.

when updating drivers you had to fdisk and delete option 4, non dos partitions, then restart.
the new updated drivers would then be reloaded to WPFS.

that was the last version of Windows i used for 20 odd years.

WinME with a windows folder of 128MB, thats right, 128 Megabyte and everything worked.
Intel Celeron 333MHz. single core.
1GB of DDR ram (double the system max). there was a way to split the memory allocation table from 1x8 bit to 2x4 bit
thereby increasing the ability to have above the maximum RAM. 1024 MB the system could use 999MB, 1MB used for ram mapping and 23MB reserved for system hardware. a 30GB 7200RPM 3.5" IDE HDD (never fill that up, smile)
outpost firewall and AVG free. the little beast flew and everything worked without any BSOD. after that i moved to Linux.

I thought winme was just win98se with bloat. Functionally it seemed identical once the bloat was removed. And 2k was a more friendly NT version.

The gamer-changer was xp which was 2k plus 98.

XP may have been the game changer for MS but for me it changed me to Linux.
i only moved back to Windows 11 because it came with this newish AiO computer.
if Debian release Trixie (Debian 13) this year then its very likely i will move back to Linux.
the reason for waiting is AMD_pstate frequency controllers with lockouts for turboboost and CPU speed control, which will be fully in place in Trixie.

I'm happy with Windows 11. I was hesitant to work with it after having used Windows 10 for quite awhile, but I took to it pretty quickly.

Be it a new phone or a new OS, I'm the guy that goes through every single setting in the settings menu to learn what does what before using the device for it's intended purpose.

I've made a couple of registry tweaks and fiddled with a few option toggles to strip out things from the start menu, and I really like the appearance. No 3rd party software required.

As far as functionality goes, it works. I haven't had any major issues. Windows Media Player is a pile of junk and the Edge browser can go to hell, but that fixable. So beyond that, two thumbs up.

you will have to put this in its time and place.
at the time of XP and NT there were limited recovery tools for NTFS. FAT32 had many recovery tools. Win9x couldn’t see/read/write to NTFS.
for the home user at the time it was way above and beyond anything they had used. as Windows NT/2000 was mainly used in businesses not at home.
so my system, the only system in the house at that time, moved to Linux. also the cost, Windows was expensive, Linux was free.
my two daughters still use Linux and haven’t used a Windows system at home since they were children, they are very surprised that i am using Windows.
but i wanted to have a look at Windows and have used Windows 11 for the last 18 months, its not bad .. but i do miss Linux. i just find Linux easier and more logical to use, again, Windows 11 isnt doing to bad and has been a re-learning curve for me, which i have enjoyed.
