"are you sure you want to move this system file"

I get asked that by the computer, which also means it has paused the moving operation, almost every time I move a folder with music in it. They all seem to have a Thumbs.db file in them. This isn't a sometimes thing with me. It happens very frequently. I can't leave a huge moving of files operation running unattended at night thinking it will finish OK, because if any folder has that db file the operation will stop until I answer the question.

I know there are ways to stop the delete function from asking if you're sure you really want to delete this file. It's attached to the properties of the recycle bin. Is there some fix possible to stop from being asked about moving system files? Thanks if you can help.

If I'm not mistaken, doesn't Windows ask about the thumbs.db only at the very end of the operation, after it has moved everything else? If so, it should simply be a matter of answering the prompt after which the operation will be completed pretty much immediately. In other words, it should not hold up the operation where you still have many files / folders left to copy because they have been held up by this prompt.

Please let me know if this assumption on my part is incorrect.

As an alternative, you could use a tool such as robocopy to get around this.

Glasscutter's solution doesn't work because entering gpedit.msc after Run returns "windows couldn't find gpedit.msc".

The way hsehestedt described it is exactly how things currently work. I'm looking for a way around having the process ask me at the end of moving every folder. It's tiring when you're moving dozens of them at a sitting. Plus you have to pay attention to the process making it hard to multi-task.

That might suggest you only have Windows 11 Home, not Pro (your specs don't specify), but you can use the registry editor option (you need to scrolll down past the gpedit option instructions)

Better idea! Why don't you just copy instead of move the folder? It should finish overnight without bothering you with confirmations. In the morning just delete the folders from the original location it should take seconds to do.

You're right spapakons that is a possible solution, but it has drawbacks. If I don't delete a folder as soon as it's copied I might lose track of which ones I've already copied and which still need copying. Moving eliminates the need to keep track of what's been finished but not yet deleted.

And yes I have the Home edition of Win 11 because the Home edition of Win 10 was what came preinstalled on my Dell and I saw no reason to pay for the upgrade.

I think I got the registry fix done correctly. I haven't tested it yet to see how it works. At least it rebooted so I didn't mess anything up.

Have you considered robocopy? It will do the job without nagging you . Plus, if you have a bunch of folders, you can just put multiple robocopy commands in a batch file and do the whole thing in one shot.

Thanks for the suggestion for Robocopy but what you describe is over my head. I have no idea what a batch file is.
Fortunately after last night's sessions I believe I can call my problem solved. The fix from glasskuter seems to be working.
