ASUS announces 600 Series motherboards support for 13th Gen Intel Processors


ASUS today announced BIOS support and updates readying a range of motherboards for a new wave of Intel CPUs. ASUS provides convenient tools to update the BIOS — BIOS Flashback and EZ Flashi . The design of BIOS Flashback allows users to update the BIOS without entering the BIOS screen, and the ASUS EZ Flash 3 program allows them to easily update the BIOS version without entering the Windows operating system. ASUS 600-series motherboards will receive support for these new CPUs according to the chart below.

All UEFI BIOS updates will be available on the respective motherboard support pages, which can be accessed via the ASUS Support website at Official Support | ASUS Global.

I wonder why Asus released BIOS updates to support the Gen13 CPUs so early? The new processors may not be available until this autumn.

This isn't a complaint. I've preferred Asus motherboards for years.

Same, have had my Asus Sabertooth r2 motherboard since it was made and it has been rock solid both on overclocking and reliable

Interesting. In the fine print:

"Note that the initial BIOS version is for power-up purposes only and is not suitable for performance testing. A full-function version will be made available when the new CPUs are launched."

Perhaps they did it to have motherboards in the pipeline that would boot with the Gen 13 CPUs. I'm not sure how much it would help. I have recently bought some Asus motherboards, and the age of the installed BIOS varied widely.

I believe that some of the Asus boards can update the BIOS even if the system is not bootable with the existing BIOS. However, for me, being able to do the upgrade with the EZ Flash utility (where you can at least see what's happening) would cause less anxiety.

Just installed latest 1601.

Got rid of my ROG WiFi A Z590 Sound chip issues, Back with a TUF Z690 D4 with a 1220 sound chip, no issues.

Coming out with minimal drivers so early may simply be a marketing thing so that they can boast that they are the first to support the 13th Gen CPUs.
