Seeing again a discussion of boot speeds, could anyone finally explain to me why is it so important to anybody? What kind of slowing down are we talking about here? From 5 seconds to 10 seconds, or from 30 seconds to 3 minutes? :cool:

I doubt that enabling TPM 2/Secure boot will slow the boot time of any PC. People just don't want to use TPM 2 and this is one more reason not to.

Something like that... Asus/AMD calls it fPtm but it varies. All I know is when I turned it on... there was no difference in the boot time.

Maximus X Hero got it's BIOS update today on it's support page, but the microsite list hasn't been updated yet.

This is the first BIOS update I will skip, as I already had TPM(PCH-FW) turned on, and CSM turned off, Secure Boot turned on, and all those good things, been using them since Windows 8 :p

Since when did updating the Bios loose your settings?

They are saved to Profile slots and will still be there even if you reset the bios via little button on rear, added to most people who OC will have backed them up to a USB drive.

Settings from previous versions have never been able to be carried over on ASUS and MSI boards for years now, at least on OC capable boards, because some times a new update gets changes to RAM secondary and tertiary timings in XMP, voltage curve(VID) and so on, that can cause stability issues.
And changes in versions that have new added stuff like resizable bar, that is not on older versions would not be compatible when loading a saved profile that doesn't have the setting.
Or the latest turning on TMP, would just turn it off, when your profile had it turned off.

There are just so many factors that can not be compensated for, as the profile saves a new "version" of the complete BIOS and not just the changes.

Since forever? Sure, if you just reset your BIOS or clear CMOS. But if you update the BIOS to a new version, you loose all your settings and have to manually reenter them.

Not on my Mobo and its from 2013 (ASUS ROG Z87) and even then if they did go missing and I had no backup they can be copied over from Bios 2.

I have a ASUS Z170 MB w/ the TPM connector open so I acquired a ASUS TPM 2.0 module & plugged it in, defaulted & did a BIOS update & after a few restarts noticed my boot manager was not available so I tweaked the BIOS back to my previous choices & all is good again.
Restarts were a bit slower but it has picked a little speed too.
hare are the results from the TPM.MSC check in Win10.

I don't think it matters with fan or w/o fan because you will be hearing the case or CPU cooler fan most of the time. The mobo fan is too small to make an audible sound and it rarely spins.

Perhaps the chipset fan doesn't matter too much but I'd rathe have the more up to date board without a fan. I use a large slow spinning Noctua CPU fan and quiet case fans.

Not sure what BIOS updates you've done, but anytime you do a BIOS update things get reset. This is also why there's "Load Optimized Defaults" switch in the BIOS as well.

That also means if you have customized BIOS settings as most system builders and overclockers do, yeah updating a BIOS will result in one needing to reinput their customized values.

But yes, saving a profile can make reapplying your custom settings a breeze, but not everyone saves profiles (I do). Also, some updates, delete, revamp the BIOS. Example: My Gigabyte Z390 board had a BIOS update that did a "BIOS structure refresh" which completely changed the BIOS layout and added some stuff.

Anyway Gigabyte has not (at least for my boards) released any "Windows 11" BIOS' their boards already have firmware TPM (though disabled by default so one would need to enable it)

Maybe no BIOS "upgrade" to switch on TPM.

MoBo has integrated TPM. Switch it on manually.
