Has anything changed on your system recently? Did you install a new program or update a program?

Look under task manager under startup and disable them one at a time and restart until you find the culprit.

Or easiest way,

download autoruns and find it and delete it.


You can also check the programs you have running at startup for updates, and make sure they are all up to date.

I suggest first from an elevated command prompt run sfc /scannow to check if there are any corrupt system files (#3 option in the website below)

I used sfc /scannow and it fixed some things but did not affect the error.

About autoruns, I assumed the best strategy might be to test/disable more recently installed things under the "Logon" category tab; yes?

Any other strategy for working with autoruns I should know about?

You could try going to the start menu and type (without quotes) 'view reliability history' and open the app, it will show you which applications have crashed or had issues, when etc. It may help to identify the problem.
