To anyone who has had experience with Audirvāna High Resolution Digital Audio Player...,

... would love to hear your thoughts/opinions, good or bad. :)

This thread has since morphed into an all-sorts thread about audio and audio software/hardware!

Ooh cool il download this later and see what I think. Pretty cool it's got a free trial too, I've used deezer and tidal before. Both were excellent but have never heard of this one. Will give it a go and report back

Running it on my laptop with the Edifier's..., not blowin my mind, yet!

Well...,
for starters, the app takes exclusive control of the primary audio driver, so, I can't A/B apps side by side!
Can't record it either!

Checked out a few tracks, just from listening memory..., there seems to be some subtle superiority in Audirvana, with some tracks...

Ahh right okay, Its pretty useless to me im afraid, I don't store music on my PC, I stream everything now, Its an app that sits on top of things like Deezer and two other things ive never heard of. So no spotify/youtube music/ amazon unlimited support etc which is pretty pants. If you have music stored on the pc and exclusively dont stream anything then it might be worth it, Theres a software audio control in one of the menu's i think that takes away the exclusivity of the audio driver possibly, But i havent actually tested it.

yeah, but, turning off Exclusive Mode, then Audirvana won't play anything!!!

Reminds me of JRiver Media, with it's exclusive complexity!

Ima say you have most if not all of you're music stored on you're pc? If not, deezer and tidal seemed to be the best for streaming imo. Spotify doesn't have a high kbps option or atleast it didn't. Tidal gets my vote due to its master studio quality audio. But deezer had high fidelity which I guess is they're version of that but tidal edges it in sound for me.

Just read this review on it - AUDIRVANA STUDIO REVIEW and they liked it, but that's just one reviewer. And he's running his on a Mac.

Do note the software requires a DAC. I do have a high-end USB DAC that handles DSD files and can play sources up to 384Khz/32-bit. Point (for me) not sure what Audirvana offers (for me) that my DAC with the help of JRiver Media Center can't do. Especially @$119 bucks.

That said, I'm sure some DACs would benefit, but like everything else that depends on hardware and the rest of your system as to whether the software will be worth said price.

Interesting, though I never heard of them until this post. Thanks for the info.

Yeah, if you only stream, this is not for you. It's for local files using a DAC.

I myself do both - play files locally from my PC when home using JRiver Media Center; stream when away or in my car (Plex).

I think I can get foobar to sound almost as good!

Bear in mind, this comes out of my laptop, WASAPI/Line Out to Edifier speakers, not an elaborate setup by any means!!!

Recorded with my phone, sorry!!!

(Those Edifier's are punchy little b*tches, though!!!)

YES... the only concert I ever went to. It was so awesome, I doubted ANY other concert could ever compare.
1976 - Philadelphia, I think.

And the artwork for the stage backdrops was done by none other than Roger Dean. The same guy that did their album covers...

Kind of hard to assess the audio quality of another system via YouTube, but I get the point. Anyway, I use an ASIO driver for my DAC. My Audioengine A5+ powered speakers and SB sub are hooked to the DAC. Here's my setup...

I'm using JRiver Media Center as my audio player. That said, I may give Audirvana free trial a go just to see what it does, but I doubt I'll buy it, especially at 119 bucks.

Here's most of my 1979 stereo setup. These aren't actual pics ofc... I had to grab these from the internet.
Couldn't find the turntable and the dubbing cassette tape deck. The cassette deck was made by Nakamichi, but that's all I remember.
For size comparison... that white woofer in that speaker was 16". 98dB/watt, and I could blow out a candle with those suckers.
