I like motherboard installers if they are offline (a big file that has everything inside instead of a small one that "installs from the net" in one or other way). I hate online installers except for the FW/AV.

If you cannot extract the drivers from the utility with 7zip for instance (I'm not expert in 7zip, but when I open installers with it I see things that don't seem files and I guess they could be "meta-instructions" to place info in the registry, as many or most installers do), and if the installer is offline, run it abort it and hunt the extracted folder. This was easy to do by me around year 2010, in many installers from that age you were prompted about where to unpack. I did it once or twice to do partial reinstalls or similar.

If it's online, it might d/l the true installer and leave it in %temp% or elsewhere. It happened here last time I did this with an online installer that I wasn't able to circumvent.

That's a good suggestion, actually I forgot that there is website called microsoft update catalog.

Downloaded the driver. In device manager selected the unknown device, clicked update driver. Pointed it to the newly downloaded folder, it did update one by one.
