OK ill make this question short and please anyone whom answers make it a simple yes no answer and with what software.
I have 3 2TB storage drives. My main C: Drive is on a New SSD, then I store my personal files etc on a second New SSD. and finally I have an older HDD with nothing on it. Can I backup Windows onto the older HDD and would I be able to restore with that backup to my C: drive if needed? I don't want to buy a new SSD to replace the older HDD because I just cant afford it at the moment. I was using EaseUs Backup pro and placing my backups on the older HDD but I havent needed to restore a backup yet. Only reason I am backing up internally is because well one I can and two I dont have an external drive and cant afford one right now.

If you have a 2T SSD (main drive), a 2T SSD (Data drive) and a 2T HDD it will depend on how many data there are on the first two SSDs to be stored on the HDD.
And I use Reflect Free Edition

YES.

I backup from SSD to HDD and restore from HDD to SSD, no problems.
Macrium Reflect (free/paid)... all backup software should work the same in that respect.

How a drive functions (SSD vs. HDD), makes no difference to backup software.

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 13 years?
I would keep your C: partition fairly small and as exclusive as possible for Windows. That way you can quickly back up the OS, and if necessary restore it without losing data. Keep data away from this partition wherever possible. My boot volume is a 256 GB SSD with 100 GB of that for Windows C: and the remainder as a D: drive for data. I back up the Windows C: partition with Macrium Reflect on to my other drive (2 TB SSD). Backup time at the moment is 2-3 minutes.

Exactly.
My Windows partition is 200GB with 40GB of data on there.
Takes 2.5 minutes to backup and 2 minutes to restore.

Your backup software doesn't care where you store your images just as long as it is not on the disk being imaged. However I advise you to practice the restore procedure, at least up to the point where you are asked to give it the final go ahead. You wouldn't be the first to find that although you have an image file you don't really know how to restore it..

If you backup to an SSD Drive, the only diff would be The Speed of the backup/restore. I keep everything on a 2TB Samsung Pro Nvme drive and Games on a second Crucial Nvme Drive. and back up to an external SSD and a Fit Flash drive. I also use a WD Hard drive as well at times which is also external.

Sure you can do it as replies here say - I do it myself.

However, there is a risk both internal drives could fail at same time (small but not zero) e.g. some power surge frying drives (I have seen it happen).

A much more significant risk of course is ransomware locking up both drives.

It is always a good plan to also keep a (recent) copy of your image backups on an external usb hard drive which is only plugged in when copying image or making new one.

YES.

I backup from SSD to HDD and restore from HDD to SSD, no problems.
Macrium Reflect (free/paid)... all backup software should work the same in that respect.

How a drive functions (SSD vs. HDD), makes no difference to backup software.
ok ty for your reply. But some are saying here to try doing the backup to make sure I do it right? Right as in...? What I have done is install the WinPE on my computer then I Install the software and then place the backup profile i picked to my HDD which has Nothing on it execpt the backup files. When I did do a restore from a backup When I restarted my computer I go into the WinPE environment so its basically looks like my desktop with Icons for whatever I want to do so I picked restore from a backup, I picked the last backup file and it did its thing and done, or is that wrong? I keep my main C: Drive as small as I can. My backup HDD Drive is 2TB and my backup file right now would be about 100 GB. My Main C: Drive is also a 2TB SSD. Do I need to have HYPER-V turned on or anything else turned on or off? And Iwant to know should I do a backup? or Clone Disc Image? I want my entire C: Drive to be restored exactly the same as It was before it would have gotten messed up.

I don't have Win PE installed, I don't use Hyper V.
I just do simple backups.

To restore from a Macrium image you need to boot into Macrium’s recovery environment - either via their Windows boot menu options or via their USB boot media. This will show a UI similar to Macrium Reflect not Windows.
Or are you referring to Windows own backup feature?

ok so i installed EaseUs todo backup pro 2022 last night. I set it up and placed my backups on my HDD drive. now before i installed the software I installed their WinPE onto a USB stick i have and then did the backup which was successful. So now if i need to restore then I just boot from the USB(if i need to i know i go into boot menu options and change the boot order if i have to) and restore from whichever backup i have and thats it. Ty for all your replies. I was just wondering if I needed hyper-v on or if there was any other settings i needed to set in case say the restore fails because i didnt do something i missed. this thread can be closed now thanks again everyone.
