Solved Bad Cluster(s) on SSD

I've found out that I may have some bad clusters on my internal SSD - 512GB NVME PC801 NVMe SK hynix.

I know this because some files are not being backed-up -


I've moved them to an alternate location / partition and they are now being backed-up.

Could anyone offer any advice on how to mark the bad cluster(s) as being permanently marked?

I'm not sure if the drive can be trusted or not. If it ever happens to me, I'm going to replace the drive.

Consider

a) Running chkdsk /b /v overnight while sleeping.

b) The next day run HD Sentinel.






1) Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:

C:\WINDOWS\system32>chkdsk /b /v
The type of the file system is NTFS.
Cannot lock current drive.

Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another
process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be
checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)

Type: y

Reboot as needed.











2) Run chkdsk from event viewer > post a share link








3) Run HD Sentinel > post share links

a) Overview
b) Temperature
c) SMART

I always just run chkdsk /r

If that's the C: drive, then chkdsk c: /r
Computer will need to reboot to run that.

Chkdsk /R can do that, it will also fix any logical errors it finds.

But first, see if the SMART data says there are actual read errors, it may just be a logical error and nothing to do with the SSD itself. I use CrystalDiskInfo to read the SMART data on my drives.

Please make sure that chkdsk /b /v runs before HD Sentinel.

Your screenshot shows the details for a Seagate drive, you need to click on the SK Hynix on the left to see its details.

Looks like the drive is OK. I wonder why your files couldn't be backed up.

I agree. You can run Chkdsk /Scan from within Windows to fix logical errors.

I ran it and chkdsk did not find any errors.

I had a similar issue about a week ago and I contacted LiveFileBackup support.

It looks like one of the following possibilities could apply:

1 The Macrium backup program locks this directory exclusively for itself; perhaps through a background service that uses the directory on an ongoing basis.
2 The permissions of the directory do not allow access by the user under which LiveFileBackup is running.
3 There is a possible corruption on the host media

Hi,

I’ve just done a Windows 11 (Windows 11 Pro v 24H2 Build 26100.1591) clean install, and I’ve found LFB will no longer (?) backups a particular directory

I’ve enclosed views of the source directory & source directory contents & also the LFB log.

I eliminated options (1) & (2), so I ran Chkdsk and it cleared the issue

Backup Software needs SYSTEM privileges.

I had my internal SSD replaced by Dell yesterday, and everything is fine again now.
