I think you're correct. The companies are paying for the MAK license so MS is still making a profit. I'm guessing the downside is that the OS can only be used on the original device.

I have a couple of NIPOGI miniPC's with W11 PRO installed and activated with a digital license -- didn't need an Ms account either -- When you ist turn on the box after purchase you get the initial setup system then at the Home / Work / School option -- "Is this computer used for work / school or home. I selected the Work / School option then selected on the login option -- domain join. Setup completer with local account -- no problems with later updates via WU or whatever. No MAK keys.

Since I've a license for W11 iot enterprise -- I "cloned" the initial NIPOGI supplied Windows 11 PRO and installed W11 iotEnterprise on the box. No problems at all with the whole process.

Apart from that the INTEL N100 type of processors are pretty good for what I'd imagine most people use Windows for, internal Audio is fine, multi monitor 4K UHD graphics support OK , latest blu tooth and wifi, plus fast 10 gbps LAN connection.

One I use now is for media streaming --it's so small that I can even clip it on to the back of a remote TV and with an HDMI Tx/RX set there's barely any need for wires over the place. Easy to control the device via SSH or whatever from a mobile phone.


These miniPC's which with current "Black Friday sales" are almost cheaper than what a full price retail copy of W11 Pro would be itself.

These things are excellent, cheap workhorses. I'd never even think of going back to a standard desktop any more or even a new laptop.

For UK users --£150



I've run these things now for at least 4 months 24/7 -- they don't get hot and are almost noiseless. Plus they have plenty of USB3/USBC ports as well

I guess mini PCs are ideal HTPC (aka Home Theater PC). I currently have a hybrid 13.3" tablet/laptop connected to my TV via HDMI. A mini PC would be more discrete and more powerful, but I don't want to replace my laptop right now. Probably some time later.

I dunno. I don't think all the 24H2 bugs will fit in a Mini PC.
Probably need a full tower build for that.

According to Deskmodder.de ...the Preview update at the end of this month, fixes most of the current bugs.

But with any purchased device, it's usually an OEM license and cannot be moved from machine to machine anyway.

Like I said, with my Beelink, I'm not even sure what the original MAK key was that was used to activate it. I reinstalled the OS almost immediately, told it that I didn't have a key, so it used the generic key and because the machine was already activated previously on the MS servers, when it tried to activate it found the existing allowed hardware ID match, and just activated it. So I would have never been able to even attempt to use the MAK key again on any other device.

I think MS eased up on that restriction. I don't know about a MAK license.

Mini Computers: those that are only the size of a refrigerator.

Micro computers: those the size of a full tower.

These were at the 80's and earlier. Today "mini PC" we mean the size of an external 3.5" hard disk or smaller.

Compare: My HP 20S Scientific Calculator had the processing power equivalent to Intel 80386 CPU. In that sense, if it could run DOS or Windows it would be a "nano PC"

Rather late to this thread but I purchased an SER8 and it was delivered today. The reviews I had read never mentioned any windows activation issues, but when I booted it up, it was a rather odd, custom feeling setup. I've built PCs rather than bought them generally, so I know my way around a windows install. When I read this thread I feared for the worst but upon going to system, activation, my activation is linked to a key tied to my Microsoft Account. No worries.

I'm happy there is no issue and a standard win 11 pro reinstall won't give me any issues. As for the PC, early days, but it's quick and I'm pleasantly surprised by the igpu (Radeon 780m). Very happy with it, it's a well built machine and blows away the old win 10 laptop it replaces.

A Lanner Falcon. I grew up in a village called Lanner (totally unrelated to the bird though) and when I saw it as part of a display at a castle in Wales, I had to have my pic with it. My partner had a pic with the golden eagle instead but I liked my falcon

That's the case with any custom-built or unknown brands. You don't have official support, except maybe for downloading the drivers, so you have to be careful what you are doing. Also that's why such forums are for. To help each other based on our own experiences.
