You wave the US flag in your avatar, yet you use a Russian AV software! Please uninstall and use Defender or amother AV.

I also enlisted in and served 3 years in the US Army. That doesn't mean I'm going to hate everything that comes out of Russia, Vietnam, Germany, Japan, Italy or England - all of which have been US enemies at one time or the other. I respect your opinion and position - perhaps you can reciprocate. After all, my money is going to the owner of Kaspersky, not Putin ;-)

I do respect your opinion, I just don't agree with it. Your money is going to Putin, whatever you think. I think we should not support any Russian company while Russia is raping Ukraine. Eugene Kaspersky is probably a fine fellow, but if you buy his software you are complicit.

LoL guys it's so funny when you mix politics with things that have nothing to do with it.

The politicians would say Business as usual

Anyway it doesn't take logician to figure out that top government officials don't use Kaspersky for security reasons, so your claim that Putin is spying on them makes no sense.

There are many skilled reverse engineers working for government, how is that none of them was able to detect malicious activity done by Kaspersky AV?
I'm sure they would ring on all the bells if they did to damage their reputation don't you think?

If Kaspersky is now a bad actor, we may not know yet. That malicious acts have not been detected is not proof that his software has not planted malware on your computer that is binding it's time. In my sole opinion, I think it is reckless to trust any Russian software.

@kelper
Just because somebody is ideologically different than you doesn't mean they're doing bad things, in fact that person might not be interested in politics at all, that's why looking at things from political perspective is wrong and childish.
What you're doing is called "generalization", that is you generalize some software as bad only because it's made by person from ideologically different country.

7-zip is also Russian software btw. made by some individual, therefore according to you 7-zip is controlled by Putin for his spying activities which sounds as silly as your claims so far.

The only difference is that's Kaspersky is a rich company while the other one is made by individual for non-profit, yet ironically more users use 7-zip than Kaspersky AV, therefore if Putin is using them to spy on people he should use 7-zip rather than Kaspersky to cover more people, according to your logic.
Do you see how silly this reasoning is?

That Kaspersky has a data centre in Switzerland proves nothing. It may be controlled by the Kremlin. In any case, I won't be buying and goods from Russia.

Again, look up the "eyes" nations. Many countries do the same:

The Five Eyes countries: the US, the UK, Canada, New Zealand, Australia.
The Nine Eyes countries include the Fives Eyes members plus Denmark, France, the Netherlands, and Norway.
The Fourteen Eyes include the Nine Eyes members plus Germany, Belgium, Italy, Sweden, and Spain.

What’s more, Israel, Japan, Singapore, and South Korea are considered close allies of these alliances.

...

All data that any of these countries collect about you has the potential to be shared with any other Eyes country. This policy of data sharing gives the intelligence agencies a lot of leeway to act beyond the bounds of the law and helps them create all kinds of surveillance schemes.

Given that and your standards, your options on what goods to buy will be very limited. Even goods like Windows 11 are involved given telemetry, etc., turned on by default, which implies that even without governments private companies themselves engage in similar.

One would think that a security software that has full privileges like Kaspersky would be put under the microscope...

One would also think that if there was something malicious going on, someone already detected the anomaly...

But the world does not have such people...we are all running around blue eyed and trust every single app 100%.
