Anyone know how to fix this? (if i set explorer to launch to anywhere except This PC, it shows the path in the bar)
1727810761236.png

SHOULD BE:
1727810784924.png

Because it is empty at launch, if i (example) browse to Downloads and then open a new tab.. it 'steals' that path but is clearly at This PC, not Downloads:

I have checked on 2 other PCs that have ZERO mods in any way and they are 2 different builds of Win 11. Both have the same issue.

made a temp solution for now... ahk of C: and then immediately ALT+UP lol. ghetto but not noticeable until they fix it. insane how much they pay those devs and this is what we get

funniest part is, the ribboned explorer (native via dual clsid OR tabbed ribboned via SAB) shows This PC in the bar. Win 11 & Win 7 styles dont

Far as I'm concerned, MS can take that whole Explorer SDK and stick it where the sun don't shine!!!

Same.
Explorer, (in the classic sense), is so powerful and MS makes it so lame! 🤷‍♂️

I'm just glad SAB and QTTabBar still works!

Once tweaked, File Explorer is fine, mine is exactly how I want it.
You’d have to tweak any Explorer program regardless of what it is. It’s in our nature to bend programs.
Every other File Explorer I have ever tried has been over loaded with so much.

I haven’t tried Old Explorer, but like I said, File Explorer is working for me.

I tested 24H2 26100.1882 and see the same issue when Explorer is set to open to This PC:

Of course, it's fine when using the old Explorer:

Me also. BUT, now I have to compete with the fact 24H2 has resorted back to old behaviours with File Explorer views. I had it all nicely in 23H2. It’s a bloody mess.

I don’t want to upset Les, but I could never figure how to use it.

In Les’s defence, my head wasn’t the best when trying. I get confused sometimes.

Will take another look at it, thanks.

No worries. 🙂

If you only want to backup and restore your folder views, you could just use the WinSetBak.cmd (or WinSetBak.ps1 if you prefer PowerShell) script from the Tools folder. That script is very similar to the one here except that it also backs up any FolderTypes key found in HKCU.

WinSetView itself is really meant for setting and applying your preferred folder view defaults, by folder type, across the board. Backup and restore of views is a secondary consideration.

If your folder views are a mess, than getting the defaults as you like makes sense as the first step. Then, if there are any folders that you want set up different than your defaults, you would set those views manually. You could then, if you like, run the aforementioned script to backup all of the views. That's not something I ever do, since I'm happy with just setting the defaults, but it's there if you need it.

Thanks, Les. I might have a look at the backups, but especially your app (software) on my Sunday 🙏
