Solved Boot Failure (Finally Solved)

Given how many things were going on (I can usually deal well with perhaps 0.56 of a "thing," I have all ready forgotten a few of the problems and posers not well handled by the help file. As soon as I had reinstalled Macrium Reflect, I created the file used to create a rescue disc.

It was a good thing that I did that for, once I had figured out where my C:\ backups were, I chose one and made a choice or two and started the installation. It did not take long before I saw a popup that, as the C:\ drive is populated, you have to use the Macrium rescue disc, which I had left in the external DVD drive, so I told the process to do that.

The first error was that there was a keyboard error, with no description, so I clicked on `continue' or whatever it said. It did not take long for another error, which really was unwelcome, that there was a error and that the computer would restart for me. I waited a while, gave up, pressed the power button, the rescue disc finished with the C:\ drive looking as expected.

I restarted Reflect to reinstall the image backup, which said that there were no files where I expected to find them. I don't know how I managed to create an H:\ which contained a folder, (D), which itself had my D:\ drive files, so I returned to Reflect and tried to access that folder, only to be informed that it was locked by Bitlocker, which I had never used. I looked by to find the Bitlocker key, tried one, rejected, the next one worked, I turned off Bitlocker for the D:\ drive, reinstalled it, ran the two scheduled backups that had failed. I knew why they failed: When I got Reflect working, the D:\ file that is used to allow the backups to tun on a schedule. I took care of that.

"The Play Has Ended". a common expression for performances, etc. In my case it was at one time meaningful, as I spent three and one half years during my college days spending time in what is considered one of the finest small college theaters. Freshmen could not take electives the first semester, a regulation that has gone, but as the theater was closed while a new stage-of-the-art lighting control system was being installed that did not bother me. I don't recall how I managed to be named the person who would fade from one example of the intensity settings for all fifty circuits to the next. There were ten sets of fifty intensity settings, and as soon as one was used, the classmate who managed that part of the system would look at the massive chart showing what needed to be changed for the next time around.

One little aside: Dress rehearsal night, as I was fading out of one and into the next lighting sets, the theater went completely dark. The new theater director was yelling, I was trying to get his attention, did so at last, and we skipped that set of fader controls for the night. The two of us spent a few hours afterwards until I tracked down the problem. All of the control circuits, such as those that fed the information to my position and back were low voltage and protected by circuit breakers. Suffice it to say that the breaker for the slider control that left the house in darkness was short-circuited. I installed a replacement from the spare parts provided by the system manufacturer. We chalked a message to the theater technical advisor, a graduate of the college himself, that we had remedied the situation in time for the opening night performance, locked the stage door and wended our way back to our dorms..

We all, students who were actors, prop managers, ushers, etc. all bonded together as a family during the two yearly major productions, the second reserved for a Shakespearean venture. At the end of the second such, there was always a party for the entire group, hosted by professor. I learned quickly that this was somewhat bittersweet, as it meant that the family would be breaking up, but that we all felt privileged to have contributed to the success of the play.

"The Play Has Ended" I don't know that I want to call the tribulations I have gone through over the past few weeks, but nonetheless, it might well be said that the play has ended with my computer's restoration to usefulness, so I am going to take my leave with a heartfelt thank you to each and everyone of you who has contributed to my perhaps misnamed "play."
