Hello. I just bought a Gigabyte M32UC 4K monitor, and it worked amazingly well for my games and I also have it in a dual-monitor setup with my old 1080 monitor acting as a second just as an extra.

Everything was going well, but then I tried to stream a show, and the monitor showed static for a moment and then went blank. I could not get the monitor back on without restarting the computer. I tried Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Paramount + and this happened with all of them.

I was able to stream it on my old monitor by dragging the Google Chrome window over there, but the 4K monitor would still show static and then crash.

I have a 12th Gen Intel i7-12700K with a Nvidia RTX 4070ti. I am using an HDMI cord to plug in my old monitor to the video card, and a new display port cable to plug my new monitor in. The new cable says it is 8K if that matters. I am not using any adapters for any of the cables.

This is outside my level of skill and I am wondering if anyone can help me troubleshoot this. I am sure that I probably have done something wrong, and hope it is as easy as that! I appreciate any help, and thanks!

Welcome to the forum,
Use process of elimination to try to narrow it down. First try one of the other DP ports on the GPU. If no more trouble it's the port. If the trouble follows, it could be the cable. Try disconnecting the second monitor and use it's hdmi cable into new monitor. Does it work correctly using hdmi?
If so purchase a DP to HDMI cable to connect your old monitor to one of the DP. You are smart to not use adapters.

I don't normally stream video on my PC.

I just tried it using my Amazon Prime account. Worked fine, in both Edge and Chrome browsers. My single monitor is connected via DP.

This was on my System 1.

I presume that you're running the M32UC at 144Hz or higher. It's not obvious why that should make a difference. You could experiment with setting the M32UC's refresh rate at 60Hz. That would at least take it out of the data rate that may require DSC.

I've never seen you issue, and I don't know of a fix.

Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Paramount + likely all require HDCP. What happens if you try to stream video from another source such as YouTube?

In the nVidia control panel, "View HDCP Status". Reports the status of the GPU and monitor.

I'd be surprised if that is the problem.

To be honest, so would I :-). But I figure we might as well try to eliminate that since it's pretty easy to do.

Thank you all for the time and the help. I will work on trying out cables and seeing if I can get it to work with the HDMI and I will also try working with different refresh rates as suggested.

Also, to answer a few questions I am able to stream Youtube without any problem. I also did check the Nvidia control center and both monitors have a green check mark for the HDCP.

This one is weird and new to me, and it seems like to many of you. Thank you for taking the time to try and help me. Will report back soon!

Ok, so today I changed the HDMI cable to the 4K screen and things seem to be working well! I'll give it a try for a bit, to make sure this is repeatable, but I think it may be fixed!

Thanks all!

Good to hear. After you purchase a dp to hdmi cable, if there are issues with your old monitor connected that way, then the issue is going to lie in your Nvidia RTX 4070ti display ports. You would need to contact whoever you purchased it from for replacement. Once you are satisfied your issue is solved, please close this thread by marking it as solved. It's right below the title of the thread.
