Solved Browsers, semi-freezing, and tracking prevention

This isn't Earth-shaking, but I've recently been experiencing a sort of freezing with gocomics.com. (Other sites too, but gocomics was the worst.) It may have something to do with gocomics recently undergoing a full revamp.

It became unresponsive after clicking between comics in list. (Free account. I'm cheap.)

It happens with Edge, Chrome, and Firefox. It appears to be unrelated any specific browser.

It didn't happen with Edge in an InPrivate window. That gave a hint.

If I changed Edge's Tracking Prevention setting to "Strict", the issue did not recur.

(It's too bad that Edge doesn't permit tracking prevention settings for individual sites.)

Is there an explanation that's understandable by non-programmers?

I don't see how it explains why the web site freezes when blocking is set to "balanced" (default), but works OK when it's set to "strict".

The site prefers that I block tracking stuff that it normally would try to push on me? (I'm struggling to avoid giving a snarky reply.)

The main reason to avoid Strict is that it might make some sites inoperable. But with Edge in 11, there are no per-site settings.

I haven't studied other browsers that might offer more options.
