Hi All

Fed of my Black screen of Death issue with no solution at the moment, issue has been on going for nearly a year now.

When I do decide to play a game on the odd occasion, not long after I start playing the game, my system will crash and display a back screen with the no input source message. Sound will continue to play, friends will still be able to hear me and speak to me. The screen just never recovers and the only way to get back up and running is to hold down the power. Rebooting the Graphics Drivers from the keyboard just seems to get rid of the no input and display a solid black screen.

I've found a few things have helped in the past like setting my fans to 100% but now this has seemed to stop working. Managed to go for a brief two - three weeks a couple months back with no issues at all, no need to see the fans to 100% but it shortly returned after.

I've checked everything I believe apart from reseating the CPU Cooler and adding new thermal paste. GPU Driver reinstalled, Windows reinstalled, reseating Ram, Additional cooling with a Dyson Fan, Flashed the Bios, Reviewed Temps which appear to be slightly higher but within a reasonable threshhold I think. Contemplating going to Windows 11, just not a fan.

New finding today under event viewer is "The description for Event ID 13 from source nvlddmkm cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer." Struggling to locate what this really means.

I've attached my log.

Thanks in advance if anyone has any suggestions,
Luke

Welcome to the forum. @zbook or one of the others ( they are on different time zones and come into the forum at night) will analyze your files and provide specific instructions but IMO nvlddmkm is pointing to your Nvidia driver.

Thank you! Interesting, i've just checked here and can confirm it is outdated although unsure if thats the fix as i've previously used Geforce Expeerience to updat it anyway.

Thank you :)

Until one of the BSOD guys jump in, I suggest your completely remove the Nvidia drivers using DDU. (be sure to run in safe mode) Read the instructions in their entirety. There is a screenshot of options to select, including Geforce Experience. A new driver will include the newest version of the application. Display Driver Uninstaller Download version 18.0.5.6
Restart
Install new drivers. You can manually enter your GPU specifications here to download most current drivers as well as find older drivers. Download The Latest Official GeForce Drivers

I'm not a gamer but there have been instances in the forum where gamers sometimes found that older drivers were more stable for them. If your issue still occurs using latest drivers, uninstall using DDU again and try a slightly older driver.

When updating Nvidia drivers it is always better to use DDU to remove all traces of older driver before installing a new driver.

Thanks for this, just installed the latest driver which seems more stable. Managed to get througha quick 10 minute game when it would crash almost instantly like before.

Although I don't feel like it will resolve it long term as I freqently do the driver updates, I will certainly give the DDU a try later when back home.
Completely agree older Drivers can be more stable, thing thats thrown me with this whole situation is the fan speed at 100% which has made me feel like it's a hardware problem this whole time.

Thank you

Does Selecting "Perform Clean Installation" during the install process not do that?

Yes, it could be hardware. If you do a web search of RTX 3070 fans running full speed, you will find numerous threads regarding the same thing with the same card. Have you checked for overheating?

There were many missing files in the V2 results.
The V2 log collector ran but was not able to run many commands.
This is typically due to third party antivirus software: Avast, Bitdefender, etc.

Please uninstall any third party antivirus software using the applicable uninstall tool:

Make sure that Microsoft defender is on.

Then please rerun the V2 log collector and post a link into the newest post.

Does Selecting "Perform Clean Installation" during the install process not do that?
It's supposed to, but over time and through updates, traces are sometimes left behind. Certain drivers can leave installation packages or registry entries once you uninstall them and DDU is a solution to keep that from happening. You will find as many varying opinions as you do the people giving then about using DDU when dealing with Nvidia and AMD graphics. The developer of the program himself says "The AMD/NVIDIA video drivers can normally be uninstalled from the Windows Control panel, this driver uninstaller program was designed to be used in cases where the standard driver uninstall fails, or anyway when you need to thoroughly delete NVIDIA and ATI video card drivers. The current effect after you use this driver removal tool will be similar as if its the first time you install a new driver ."

Some people use DDU only when they have graphics related issues. Others use it every time they install a new driver package because they want that just like a fresh, clean install of Windows feeling when it comes to their graphics. Like everything else, it's a matter of preference.

zbook will take over from here so you are in good hands.. Good luck, @Luke_Drage

In terms of the fans being at 1005, this is by me FYI. Sorry should of made this clearer, I use MSI Afterburner to set all the System Fans to 100%. Changing the Temp Limit and Power Limit doesn't make a difference.

Tahnks, Luke

Had you tried to open a thread in Ten Forums?

In the last 30 days the logs reported no BSOD and no dump files were collected.

There were live kernel dumps.

There were WHEA corrected hardware errors.

Older entries reported bugchecks: 1A1, 1B1, 116, 117, 141, 144, 193

These were likely related to a misbehaving GPU driver.

Had you already replaced the Nvidia GPU driver?

Thank you!

I've attached the Logs for Steps 1a and 1b.

Will do step 2 tonight when I am home at my system.

3. Step 3 now enabled. Sure I disabled this in the past but put my system into High Performance mode last night so may have updated - unsure of this is affected

4. Will do the BIOS Update as well.

Apologies, didn't realise there was a Windows 10 Forum! Am I fine to continue this here?

Regarding BSOD, I am assuming you mean no Blue Screen of Death Logged? I would consider this the Black Screen of Death so not sure if they are really the same but I guess not as it doesn't throw an error when it happens.

Really appeerciate your help!

Thanks, Luke

Sorry slightly confused what you mean by this?

I've now actioned everything on this thread excluding the MemTest.

Reinstalled display drivers in safemode etc.

I seem to now be getting the same thing still but white artifacts popping up on the screen.

Also throwing different errors now but a lot of Nvidia ones it's seems. I'm running the latest version released yesterday for the card.

Redone the logs again in case theres something different now

Thank you again!

Common Critical Error I am now seeing:

A corrected hardware error has occurred.

Reported by component: Processor Core
Error Source: Unknown Error Source
Error Type: Cache Hierarchy Error
Processor APIC ID: 3

Done some googling, looks like this is now a common problem.

I've also just seen my Processor hit 88 C

1666990497111.png

Whats the chance this is an overheating issue?

I'm reluctant to spend anymore money on this build due to the amount of time I really use it

Thanks, Luke

UPDATE:
Thanks for this.
I haven't actioned any of this yet but I ran the Mem86 over night, woke up to another black screen unable to see the results apart from the log. Force rebooted again.

With this, i've still had overheating in the back of my mind due to setting the fans to 100% seeming to temp fix the issue a while back and the recent processor core errors mentioned previously.

This morning, I decided to lightly take the PC apart just incase the Thermal paste was dodgy. Seemed ok.

I've now realised something... I've not setup my Radiator properly... I've had my fans intaking air via the front directly into the raditor mounted on the back of them. I've now moved the radiator to the top side of my case mounted above the exhaust fans which I think has solved the issue!
I've managed to get through 3 consective games on the new call of duty without a single crash! I've managed to rarely get through one game last night if I was lucky... my Temps have still been a little high but not as much.

Attached a quick diagram of before and after for anyone else to see if needed.

Will report back on later on today on how its been! I am still getting little white artifacts though but I can live with these for now.

Thank you again Zbook and everyone else. Suprised I never had this issue when I built the system
