BSOD - portcls.sys related

Happy New Year! Mine started off with a BSOD... something I haven't seen on my PC in a looooong time!
It occurred right after I woke up Windows 11 from its sleep, and the error reported was related to portcls.sys file.
I looked this up online and ran a scan but everything was returned normal. "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violation."

So...just a fluke or... known issue with latest Win 11 update?

Could just be an anomaly. Let's wait and see if it repeats. For now, don't worry about it.

Portcls.sys relates to your audio drivers. If you let windows update manage your drivers, check update history to see if it has recently updated anything related to audio. You can also check the audio driver version in device manager. Personally, I prefer to manage my own drivers and leave windows update out of it so I have disabled "include drivers with windows update". Enable or Disable Include Drivers with Windows Updates in Windows 11 Tutorial

I, too, would not worry about one anomaly. Windows does sometimes burp once in a blue moon. If it happens again, then I would take action.

A great number of issues reported on support forums such as this originate with unnecessarily updated drivers or corrupt drivers. Drivers should only be updated if there is a specific need or reason to do so (i.e., added features you require or support for hardware you have). Most knowledgeable users disable auto updating drivers.

If Windows Update had updated something related to audio drivers, would it simply show in the Update History screen or would I have to click Learn more (which takes me to the Microsoft related update website) and sift thru that? Right now if I look at my Update History I see 3 sections: Quality Updates, Definition Updates, and Other Updates. There is no indication of drivers having been updated just by looking at the entries here. Do I need to click Learn More and investigate on the MS website for each update to find out if drivers were changed?

In Windows Update click on View Update History. Driver Updates are in a separate category near the bottom of the list.
