BT broadband customers, as part of their deal, have access to BT Cloud. When I first used it there were problems but it has been reliable for over a year now and I'm happy to recommend it. My deal gives me 1Tb of cloud storage for my files and all the computers here are set up to use it. It's an alternative to OneDrive and can be used in sync mode or backup mode. If you are not presently using it I recommend giving it a try.

Yeah but BT wanted £45+ per month for its BB deal and were going to increase by a further £4 pm. So I kicked them into touch.

I got same speeds for £22 from Vodafone. You can buy a lot of cloud space for the difference.

Also BT Cloud has a limit on maximum size of files (can't remember 10 to 15 GB I think which meant I could not sync my image backups without splitting the backups.

The cloud software is pretty basic.

When I had it, I only used it for long term backups of image files as I also have 1TB of onedrive space {from Office 365) for normal cloud use which is much more flexible to use and space efficient (Files on Demand etc ).

However, it was always reliable and if you are paying for a BT package, it is a useful feature but I certainly would not join BT to get it.

Yeah, I'm well aware BT is by no means the cheapest deal around but after an utterly frustrating 18 months with Virgin I was only too relieved to get back and to remove the dreadful Virgin cabling from the front of my house. I was just suggesting to existing BT customers who may not realise it's there to be used and free that it works well and worth a try if, like me, you don't use OneDrive. The file size limit btw is 9.8GB for continuous backup of selected folders or 2GB for just pushing individual files.

Past experience of BT (I am still with BT by the way) is that these kind of services are often subject to changes where a service is rebranded, relaunched, cancelled etc etc leaving you to find an alternative and change your way of working.

For me, my files stay with me at all times.

Agree, but I wouldn't advocate any one backup strategy. Users need multiple approaches and this could be one of them. What I like most about it is that it doesn't require any attention or action at all on the user's part. It starts automatically and runs continuously without bothering the user at all. I only use Backup mode - not interested in syncing data between computers. it's also great for users with multiple computers as the backups are separately accessible.
