After lots of reading, I settled on iDrive. 500GB for about $11 (including VAT) per year seems a bargain. I will upload an 'Entire System Backup and also put all my Google data in the cloud storage. (Oddly, I get 500GB for backups plus 500GB of cloud storage. The backup is in progress and seems to not affect my music streaming and browsing even though I am lucky to get 20Mbps and it's often less.

Is it encrypted in such a way that nobody could access it if a phone was stolen? Is that protection by fingerprint or password?

I've never lost or had a phone stolen, it's on my person 24/7.
I do have all the data in .securefolder though so apps can't access it.

It was too good to be true. The 'cloud storage' is only available for syncing between enrolled devices. The system backup is all or nothing and would have taken 48 hours.
