Build Info (build 22000.194)

Can you explain what the below option in Insider Settings means, then?

View attachment 8424

If you are on the Insider Beta or Release Preview Channel, when your computer updates to the RTM release via Windows Update, you will drop out of the beta program - if that option is turned on above.

If you installed a Beta or Release Preview Channel build from an ISO file, but did not enroll in the Beta Program, you should get the RTM release via Windows Update when it comes out - but if you don't, you can always just upgrade to the RTM build by downloading the ISO file and upgrading.

Keep in mind, the RTM upgrade will push out via Windows Update in stages. You may not see it in Windows Updates for months. That's why I always just download the ISO file and manually upgrade.

If you are the DEV channel, you are already past the RTM build. You will need to wait until the RTM release comes out and then, sometime in the future, there should be a way for you to step down into Beta and/or Release Preview. Once you step down into one of the channels, then you can again queue your computer to drop out of the insider program when the next RTM upgrade is released.
I was in the BETA channel and enabled the "Stop Getting Preview Builds yesterday. My PC is no longer in the BETA channel and it is still running Win 11 after a reboot. There is an option to Join the Windows Insider Programme. I will like do a clean install when an official ISO is released.

Hello,
To understand how embarrassing Microsoft is, I leave below a computer configuration that meets all security criteria TMP 2.0, Secure Boot and two video cards, including the processor is checked as ok. But God forbid it's an I7-6500U CPU that works perfectly. Microsoft doesn't feel like seeing old processors. Will I not be able to install Windows 11 on this computer?

Microsoft wants us to generate mountains of waste (garbage) to buy new technology, well why, what makes Windows 11 so big that it can't work properly on this computer.

Again,. MS is under no obligation to support older processors. Period. And I doubt that mountains of garbage will be created due to WIin11. You can continue to use 10 with no issues for four more years and in that time you can upgrade your rig. Or you can try to run 11 on that rig and see how it goes.

I wish I worked for them but I don't.

What I'm doing laying out some facts for you to ponder. From what I've seen you've spammed that reply several times in the forum.. why? Do you think MS will read it and allow your 6th gen processor to use 11?

a) I doubt the read the forum and if they do I doubt they'll pass that information up the chain of command.
b) If you want to post a request the best place to do it is via the feedback hub.

Peace.

Yeah, I understand. I have 4 desktops in my house, 1 for me, 1 for wife, 1 for son and 1 for daughter. My daughter is a light user, so she got my son's hand me down when he upgraded. She is running an i5-6500 which is running Windows 10 just fine.

I also have a pair of Intel NUC's that I typically use for playing and testing with. They are both running Core i5-5250u's Thus far they have been great for Windows 10, and Linux Machines. They have UEFI, they have TPM support, they just don't have a new enough processor for Windows 11.

I'm not ready yet to reconfigure my desktop or my wife's desktops with Windows 11, so I plan to stay on Windows 10 here for a while. I wanted something to really dig into Windows 11 with, so I invested in a small Beelink mini-pc (just like my Intel NUC's), it just happens to have a Core i5-8279u CPU...which does qualify for Windows 11 support.

End of the day....i'm not too bothered that neither my daughters PC, or my 2 Intel NUC's can be upgraded to 11. I still have 4 more years of support for Windows 10 on these devices. It's highly likely in 4 years, I will either be off them or they will be close to end of life. For my Intel NUC's, I can still use them for Linux and that is what I intend to do with both of them since buying the Beelink mini-pc.

I don't see enough radical change from 10/11 which leads me to believe in any way that driver manufacturers or software developers are going to be releasing anything that is Windows 11 only...so I don't think there is any real necessity for me having to upgrade.

I don't think lots of people are going to be so compelled to feel like they have to use Windows 11 that they are going to fill landfills with old equipment. If history has taught me anything, people will just keep chugging along with their XP machines, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10 machines until they die. at this forum, we are enthusiasts and we like to play. Other people just see their computer as an appliance and they don't have a strong desire to change much if they can avoid it.

So, end of the day...I understand the frustrations, but they don't really bother me.

PS. It may be possible to still clean install WIndows 11 in an unsupported state on non-supported hardware. If that's the case, maybe all of our problems will be eliminated. However, if it comes at the cost of no windows updates, or BSOD's...then it's going to be no-go for me.

How long might it take for the Windows 11 update to appear in Insider Release Preview? I put my laptop in it this morning, but so far all I've seen are 21H1 feature updates being offered. (and according to PCHealthCheck my HP Spectre is compatible)

@eelpout (great handle, BTW): if this is a typical MS "gradual rollout" it could take two or three weeks for you to get the offer. If you want to jump sooner, just grab the ISO and use it to perform an in-place upgrade install (that is, mount the ISO, navigate to setup.exe at the root of the mounted virtual drive, and fire it off). That's it!

It may be possible, but I would not consider it advisable, Microsoft do not have a great record of removing the old obsolete code from their operating systems when updating.

This is usually more of an annoyance than an issue .... but with a Beta release of the code there is going to be the additional code related to the nature of the beast ... the check code and the coding for the additional telemetry required to make the purpose of the Beta actually possible.

My system is to play with evaluate Dev and Beta code totally offline from my live working Operating system

When it comes to the time to update I will do this on a single copy of the latest OS, in this case, a fully patched and updated copy of Windows 10, and update with the official RTM or later any other updates will take place later when I am sure the test system is working satisfactorily to my needs.
If you are with the same build as I was it is not a problem. I did many times get off of the IP then restart and go back and join again to the Dev Channel. Installed the Build and then image it with MR and go back to the build I was originally on. The reason was the build in the Dev had way too many issues for me. If you do not use Macrium Reflect, I would advise against doing this. :shawn:

After the two channels split the Dev would have been reset and recompiled with the set of code for next year's? 1st update to the RTM - so I would always expect it to be flaky compared to the Dev at the time when the Beta branched off
