Cannot find cast option/icon when I click on the Network, Volume, and Battery icons in the Taskbar open Action Center.

Many browsers have a 'Cast' option. In Edge and Brave (a fork of Chrome), its under 'Settings'....'More tools'.
Have you tried this?

On my laptop, the Samsung TV appears twice, does yours?

The cast option is to cast a single video or website via DLNA. To mirror the whole screen you need Miracast which is connecting to a wireless display. In DLNA mode the TV decodes and play the video and it is known that their format support is limited. You might see the image of the movie but have no sound because the TV doesn't support this specific format. My first projector for example could not play Dolby Digital audio and I had to convert to MP3 in order to play from USB. In Miracast the computer decodes the video and you see exactly what you would see on a regular monitor so it is better. The exception is Netflix and other streaming apps that block video when Miracast is detected. For these play through Firefox browser.

Hik Spapakons...thanks for your assistance. On my Samsung I have Screen Sharing (wireless), Easy Connection, and Air Play. I do not see Smart Share. I see these options after I select PC in Connected Devices. My sound output is set to TV speakers. I connect my PC easily to my TV using Easy Connection and see my desktop on the Samsung. I see a note on my PC that says I am connected to my TV. So I use my mouse to select my slideshow. It starts to play on the TV, but again, I see theslides and graphics but no sound coming from my TV speakers. Soiund is only on my desktop PC speakers.. My drivers are up to date. I press Win+K which shows Available Displays. My Samsung TV pops up and I chose it to connect. I am missing something as I am getting the impression the I should be hearing sound wirelessy. I will continue to explore all my options but am running into a bit of difficulty finding the right combination of settings to enable me to hear sound from my PC thru my TV speakers wirelessly.

Your continued assistance is appreciated and thanks for your comments.

The sound was redirected to the laptop speakers and Windows remembers this choice. Go to the speaker icon at bottom right of the taskbar and change the audio device from speakers to TV.

Hi folks. Sorry for not gettig back to you all. You are all so kind to assist me with this issue. To San Martino, Yes my TV software is up to date. Still when I connect using Easy Connection on my Samsung 65" smart TV. You said that you do have sound coming from a sound source selected on your PC that you hear on your TV speakers. In my case it is a slideshow on my PC. I do see my desktop when connecting via Easy Connection. But when I select my slideshow on my PC, again, I only see the slideshow slides with graphics but no sound coming from the TV. I only have sound coming from my PC speakers wirelessly.

Would it be possible for you to provide some details as to how you have prepared your PC and TV to enable you to have sound coming from your PC to your TV speakers? I must be missing a step or setting.

Generally speaking, I have determined that my Samsung supports Miracast and is discoverable. All of my drivers are up to date and TV and PC are connected to the same wireless network. I am still exploring suggestions given to me by Mister ED as well as Bree and all of your great suggestions and comments. I am giving it my best shot but still cannot get the sound from my PC to be comimg from my TV speakers and not my PC speakers wirelessly.

Thanks for your assistance in advance. Your continued comments are greatly appreciated.
I had the opposite problem with Easy Connection. Unlike Window Key + K, which mutes the audio on my PC when casting, I have to manually mute the PCs's speaker when using Easy Connect.

Samsung is definitely changing the software often. After reading your post, I went & changed the input on my TV to Easy Connect - then, without launching Easy Connect on my PC, my Laptop showed up as connected on the TV? Tried it again this morning with the same result - no need for the Easy Connect app on the PC. Great video & audio - still have to mute the PC speakers manually.

I started using Easy Connect when Windows Key + K would cast to my TV, but with no audio (that problem has magically disappeared. Now that Windows cast option works with audio - but with AV that is inferior to Easy Connect.

That's about all the help I can offer. I think Easy Connect, or receiving any other cast, is still a work in progress for Samsung.

Hi spapakons. Thanks for your reply. When you say "Go to the speaker icon at bottom right of the taskbar and change the audio device from speakers to TV", I am directed to SOUNDS in settings. I do not see my TV listed as an option. So I press on ADD DEVICE under Outputs ...a window pops up that says Choose the device you wan to add. There are three and they are Bluetooth, the second is Wireless Display or Dock and the third is Everything else. The Wireless lists , Wirekess monitors, TV or PCs

Sorry about that but I pushed wrong key. To continue, the Wireless Display lists Wireless Monitors, TV's, or PCs that use Miracast, or wireless docks. I select this option but my TV does not show up as a device to add and connect to. And I wait for at least 5 minutes to see if my TV will pop up under Add a Device. My TV is turned on and discoverable. I do not have the option to choose my TV as a device to connect. Any thoughts are appreciated. I seem to be missing something.

Thanks for your continuing assistance.

This is how my speaker icon near the clock looks (I have replaced the default icon with that from Windows 8.1)
Sound icon.JPG
Clicking on it lets me adjust the audio volume. If I click on the V symbol next to my Realtek Speakers it allows me to select audio output device and looks like this:
Speaker icon and output selection.jpg
Doing that on your computer while connected to the TV should display a "TV" option. Select that to redirect the sound to the TV speakers via HDMI or Miracast.

Miracast also requires that the computer hardware support it. To see if your laptop supports it from the command line type the following: netsh WLAN show drivers. If Wireless Display Supported = Yes, then Miracast is supported.

miracast.jpg

Miracast was announced in 2013. Most TVs and laptops made in the last 9 years should support Miracast.

I have two Samsung TVs:
#1 Samsung UN55D6000S 55" TV (2012) - Supports Miracast: No
#2 Samsung UN43RU7100 43" TV (2019) - Supports Miracast: Yes

Since TV #1 does not support Miracast I can use the following to cast to it:
Samsung BD-J6300 Blu-ray Player (2015) - Supports Miracast: Yes

On the Blue-ray player I have to first launch the Screen Share app to connect to it.
I can then select the Blue-ray player when I select Cast on my laptop.

Since TV #2 does supports Miracast I can select it directly when I select Cast on my laptop.

In both cases I can hear the digital sound on the TV from the laptop.

For our old TV that didn't support Miracast I had to cast each photo or video in DLNA mode. From my smartphone I used the Allcast application. My computer would show in the sources list if I set the network to private and also enabled Media Sharing from Advanced Sharing Settings. I could then browse the photos in the Pictures folder and the videos in the Videos folder. To be able to play videos from another folder, such as my USB hard disk, I had to add it to the library first. Unfortunately in DLNA mode I could only play video and audio formats supported by the TV and this was rather annoying. Another option was to connect the computer directly to the TV via HDMI. Thankfully our new TV supports Miracast and I can mirror my desktop without cables and watch whatever I want. Of course for best performance (not stuttering or artifacts due to weak signal) the best option is still to connect directly via HDMI. I use my Fujitsu Stylistic Q702 hybrid tablet/laptop for that. My wife would not approve to bring my main PC in the living room 😁

Thanks spapakons and all others that assisted me with my issue. But piece by piece, procedure by procedure, screen shots, comments, and directions from you great folks on this forum, I finally got lucky and am now able to wirelessly miracast my PC to my TV. And with that said, I can see my PC desktop on my TV and play my slideshow with graphics, video and sound. I could not have done this without your help. Again thank you. I just hope that nothing changes and that I do not run into any more connection problems.

One of the biggest items that I think made a difference is that, somehow, I enabled Digital Output and selected it....which I think made a difference. I believe that all sound speaker icons and not muted or off. I also have Easy Connection on my desktop. I selected Easy Connection on my TV and then selected Screen Mirroring on TV. ON my PC, I connected my TV via CAST, and my PC desktop appeared on my TV. Then with the Digital Output selected on my Sound on The PC, was able to play my slideshow with graphics, video, and sound. I will do another test today to verify and if I missed something in the process I will let you all know.

This was not a black and white issue to solve. But again, with your assistance, I was able to somehow, find the right path to a solution. Thanks for hanging in there with me and onward and upward one step at a time.

The Easy Connection to Screen App allows you to control your PC from your Smart TV. First, install the app on your PC, and then log in with your Samsung account. Make sure your keyboard and mouse are connected to the TV, and follow the detailed guide on how to access to your PC on the TV.

That seems to indicate that Easy Connection is only used to control your PC from your TV. I assume that this can only be down with high end Samsung TVs that can be used with a keyboard and mouse. Since I assume that only want to cast your PC to your TV then Easy Connection is not even needed.

Just in case you are wondering, I have connected a desktop set (keyboard and mouse) to my TV. The mouse works exactly like the familiar pink cursor you see on the screen when you set the remote in mouse mode. The keyboard can type in most applications but there are some that expect you to select letters from on screen table. In these applications the keyboard doesn't work properly. Also the WIN key is the Home key that opens the smart apps menu and the backspace acts like the back key on the remote. You can navigate with the arrow keys.

Hi guys...thanks for your tips and comments. I will review the suggested samsung site. One way or the other, I believe I have found at least one solution to having my TV and PC talk to each other in a way that applies to my particular issue and situation. I will continue to explore other options of TV to PC and in so doing, truly become familiar with the capability of this Samsung Smart TV.

Thanks again for your interests on my behalf. I truly appreciate it.

Yesterday I made a little experiment. I converted a small video file in many formats, AVI with DivX video, AVI with AVC (x264) video, AVI with x265 video, MKV with AVC (x264) video, MKV with x265 video, MP4 with AVC (x264) video and MP4 with x265 video. These were made in various color settings, such as RGB (when possible), YUV444, YUV422 and YUV420 all with 8-bit and 10-bit per color channel, so I had many sample files to try. I copied all these files in a USB flash drive and then I connected first on my LG smart TV. It could play the DivX videos and most of the AVC (x264) video formats, including those in AVI container, but it could not play any x265 video. Also SRT or embedded subtitles must be manually enabled, they won't display automatically. This was disappointing, but it is an old model, so I accept it. Then I connected the USB in my recently bought 1080p video projector. Much worse! It could not open the AVI files (except those with DivX video) and it wouldn't play any x265 video, only AVC (x264) and there was absolutely no subtitle support. VERY limiting by today standards.

Verdict: Never rely on a consumer standalone device to play videos. Always use a computer so you can play everything you want without limitations! I know it is not convenient to have a laptop connected to your TV or projector, no matter how small, but is the only way to watch everything without compromise. Otherwise you will have to convert your movie to the format supported by your TV or projector before watching. This is not convenient as it takes too much time to convert and quality is reduced. An alternative is to use your smartphone with Miracast, but the image might stutter or have artifacts due to weak signal and doesn't have the versatility of a Windows computer.

Hi spapakons: Your little experiment as you call it, I see it as a fairly big experiment, is quite revealing. My little challenge was to convert a couple of videos located on my iphone to WAV, MP3 or MP4 on my Dell windows 11 computer so that I could insert it into my slideshow to play on my smart TV wirelessly. That procedure also took some time. But as you suggested, when I connected my computer to my TV wired with a HDMI cable, it eliminated alot of time and troubleshooting. I agree with your verdict. In most situations, the computer is the way to go. My goal was to project my slideshow on my big screen Smart TV wirelessly. I found a solution with the help of this great forum, and was able to project my slideshow wirelessly and wired on my Smart TV.

Thanks for your comments and onward and upward in this tech world of ours.

I would load the audio file in Adobe Audition and then save to the format I want. I usually extract the audio stream of a video file with Avidemux, MKVextractGUI or other convenient utility. I then open the file in Adobe Audition and then I normalize the sound to get the maximum dynamic range. I then convert to 44800Hz, 16-bit to make it more Blu Ray or DVD compliant. Finally I save as Dolby Digital (AC3) or whatever format I want. I multiplex the video steam with the AC3 file with Avidemux or other utility.

Download the Windows Update Show/Hide Tool and search for updates regularly to hide (block) any graphics or wireless drivers that can mess with Miracast functionality. Now that you got it working don't let Windows Update to touch these drivers.
