Solved Can't Remove Recall App

There's no entry for it anywhere and I can't uninstall it!

Can someone locate it for me in the registry? It doesn't work with my current PC!

Not in 26100.712! Believe me, I looked.

There isn't an uninstall entry for the app in Installed Apps.

Powershell WMIC and Get Program turn up nothing.

It wont be in Installed Settings > Apps because it is an integrated feature, like MS Edge had become. Did you try Settings > Privacy & Security, as per the link?

The funny thing about this app is it doesn't meet the requirements of my PC and its a mystery why Microsoft included it in the 26100.712 build.

Recall and Snapshots isn't there which has to do with the missing app entry.

Correct me if I'm wrong, it wouldn't be the first time.

From what I'm reading on the Internet about CoPilot + RECALL. You can't see it because it's not installed yet.

The first PCs to have these new features will not be released until Mid-2024.

The first Processors supporting CoPilot + Recall will be Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus. Not yet released.

AMD and Intel may include these new features in the near future.

Once RECALL has been installed on your device, it will have a Button on the Taskbar. And to disable Recall, you would go to: Settings->Privacy & Security->Recall and Screenshots, then turn off the toggle switch.

No. It doesn't show up in Revo or any third-party uninstaller.

I asked where in the registry Windows apps are kept. I might need to remove from there but I don't know what the string is. If anyone knows, it would be appreciated

Probably not what you want to hear, but as soon as it becomes commonplace, a tutorial will show up telling us how to... kill it.

Do you by chance have a screen shot of whatever makes you think it's installed?
If I knew what Recall things you have to work with... I might be able to suggest a solution.

Explanation: There are tools that will "discover" changes in the registry, when doing something in Windows.
These changes would point you to the correct registry keys.

After reading a few web pages about the Recall app I have to ask. Are you sure it's installed on your computer?

I was finally able to remove the Recall App:

I used Fluent Search to locate this file folder:

C:\Windows\SystemApps\MicrosoftWindows.Client.AIX_cw5n1h2txyewy

I ran Take Ownership to take possession of it.

Then I ran Unlocker to delete it to the Recycle Bin.

Checked Apps - the Recall App was gone!

Then I emptied the Recycle Bin to get rid of it.

Hope this helps others faced with trying to completely remove it from their PC. This thread can now be marked as solved!

Unfortunately, it leaves behind a dead ms resource DisplayName blank file in Apps. You can never entirely remove a problem app.

Hi,

I deleted the folder C:\Windows\SystemApps\MicrosoftWindows.Client.AIX_cw5n1h2txyewy and was left with the "dead ms resource DisplayName blank file in Apps". Restarted the PC.

Right click properties on the DisplayName blank file. Then clicked the terminate button then clicked the reset button. Went back into apps on the start menu and the DisplayBlankName file was gone :)

As long as a feature I don't want is disabled, I couldn't care less whether it's un-installed or not. But that's just me.

If you found the name of app,
then you go to register: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Appx\AppxAllUserStore\Applications\
Then look for your app name, copy the full name,includingversionnumber and the wierd string: (example: Microsoft.GetHelp_10.2308.12552.0_neutral_~_8wekyb3d8bbwe)
Then open powershell with admin rights:

Remove-AppxPackage -AllUsers -Package COPY_FULL_NAME_HERE -Confirm:$false

This would uninstall it properly, instead of just deleting the files.
Now you manual deleted the files, then remove the registry entry as well, find the name in the registry path as describe above and adjust the powershell code below.: Edit(or delete the key in registry manually while you have it open)

Remove-Item -Recurse -Force -Confirm:$false -Path "HKLM:SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Appx\AppxAllUserStore\Applications\COPY_FULL_NAME_HERE"

Make printscreen of the used commands, and errors you get, and post them here.

Show us some printscreens with recall open, with paint open, where you write your Allias and date.
Then also paste us a printscreen of the contents of C:\Windows\SystemApps\ with paint still visable:

Lets comfirm if you actually have recall installed.......
