Solved Can't seem to get rid of "- Shortcut" text for new shortcuts

I've tried to avoid the stupid mistake I made yesterday, when I claimed that Brink's W10 bats to Show Drive Letters before Names didn't work on 11, and then discovered that they DID work (thanks, Shawn), so I've tried every way I can think of to get rid of the automatic "Shortcut" text on new shortcuts, and I haven't accomplished anything. Ideas?

You can do it with WinAero Tweaker, however as I seem to recall you don't like third party apps, they provide the manual method here. Remove shortcut arrow overlay in Windows 10, Works in 11.

WinAero is not resident and only runs when you start it, no more harmful l than notepad, it is just used to add or remove registry entries, note in the unlikely event you install it or for anyone else make sure you get the right link, check by hovering over the link and it should show the Winaero zip, as there are some potentially unwanted apps linked as adverts, avoid anything that says Fix! .

Thanks for that link, clam, but it only deals with the arrow. Since I have no icons on my desktop (they're all in Start or on the taskbar), the arrows don't show up anyway. What I want to get rid of is the hyphen followed by the word Shortcut. I didn't see anything about that at Winaero. Did I just miss it? Your help is appreciated.

Nope. That's the hack that works in 10, but it's already in place in my 11 registry, and there's no desired result. Thanks again, though. Your efforts are appreciated.

I just tested the BAT files in the tutorials below in Windows 11, and they're still working for me. Hopefully, they will for you as well.

Strange as it worked in 11 here, same as Brink's bat file.

On investigation there is an alternative method at WinAero which should work allegedly, Change or disable the " - Shortcut" text for Shortcuts in Windows 10 it's a different page.

It works, of course. I downloaded a copy just now and ran it and tried a new shortcut and shazam! Turns out I was using a reg file I got from How-To Geek a couple of years ago, not your bat file. I gotta start paying closer attention to what I'm doing and where I got the things I'm using.
