I just got a new Win 11 Pro computer today. I turned on Remote Desktop and I can connect to my other computers using Remote Desktop, yet I can't connect to the new computer using Remote Desktop. I'm having trouble setting my password on the new computer. I followed the 5 ways to do this and none of them worked. When I boot the computer it's not asking for a password thankfully. I can see the other computers from the new computer under Network. This is a custom-made computer without all the bloatware. Please help

It is likely that you are not being asked for a password because auto sign-on is enabled. Look at the tutorial linked below. Hopefully, disabling the auto sign-on, at least temporarily, will allow you to change your password.

    The five 8TB drives and three 512GB SSDs are part of a DrivePool using StableBit DrivePool software. The three SSDs are devoted purely to caching for the 8TB drives. All of the important data is stored in triplicate so that I can withstand simultaneous failure of 2 disks.

I recall when helping others with remote Desktop, that I came across a few posts that mentioned a bug with Windows Hello and or Pin login being a problem in “some” cases.
Apparently if you disable those and log in at least once with email & password, you should be able to activate them again later, after being successful.

It could also be “Auto Login” issues if you have it setup.

Another possibility is that it is a local account with no password. If so, then RDP cannot connect to the PC using that account, the account must have a password. Either set a password or, if you want to keep your blank password, then create another local account specifically for remote access and give that a password.

With all the mentions of pin issues and RDP, the very basic gist of it is:

Disable above
Or
  • Remove PIN
  • Login using password (if password is set in post number 4)
  • Check RDP login is successful
  • Set the PIN back again
You only need to enter Windows using an email & pass once. Then you can turn the other stuff back on. An example post regarding this here. Just discriminate what is relevant and not the user specific process mentioned:

I have a Win 10 Pro PC upstairs which I want to access from my Win 11 Pro laptop downstairs using Windows Remote Desktop but get this error every time I attempt to access it. I have had this working previously but it's driving me daft this time. Suggestions very welcome.

I was able to get a remote desktop password, and now my other computers can connect to the new computer. But I'm having trouble getting it back to auto login, when I start the computer. I prefer it to boot to desktop without any password. RUN – NETPLWIZ didn't bring up the correct window.

    The five 8TB drives and three 512GB SSDs are part of a DrivePool using StableBit DrivePool software. The three SSDs are devoted purely to caching for the 8TB drives. All of the important data is stored in triplicate so that I can withstand simultaneous failure of 2 disks.

In the Netplwiz, instead of the 5 letter username, use the whole windows login email address and see if that makes a difference.

Just make sure you take your time and follow option one correctly. Most importantly make sure you uncheck “user must enter a username & password…

If your PC is currently joined to a domain, then the Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer. box will not be available, and you will need to use OPTION TWO below instead.
