That has to be one of the more stupid moves by Microsoft! They went to extra trouble to limit paying customers from having this configuration feature! Boggles the mind that there's not more flap over all these decisions.

You're not "paying" as much as EDU or Enterprise clients, who do pay more for licenses. MS doesn't want retail users to hide the Recommended section since those can be revenue generating online apps (Office, OneDrive, paid partners like FaceBook or Spotify).

nothing you'll notice on the daily (surface level). it doesn't do anything special... mostly just adheres to a few policies that home/pro wont, but edu/ent will.

For anyone with the new beta or dev builds you can enable the Vivetool code to enable the new Start menu option with NO recommended section and it will list the all apps below your pinned items on one menu now. It's my understanding this is a the new 25H2 upcoming Start menu.

It is as the settings switch to keep all your pinned items visible on it will break the Start button when I reboot my machine. Pressing the start button or keyboard key will not work until you turn off the switch and reload explorer. If I leave that switch off mine seems to work well otherwise though 😀

I did the simple tweak to eliminate the Recommended section. Just have to get rid of the silly search bar and I'm set. ;)

should. i used it on 23h2. and it seems to work on 24h2 for some that have used it

you can just use windhawk in that case. can hide the search and the recommended but leave the default style start menu in place. windhawk can run portable too.

It worked for me on 24H2, but no go on 23H2! 🤷‍♂️
No biggie though, SAB is my go-to.

Can't turn off Recommended on start menu​

Funny coincidence. Just this morning I was able to turn off recommended by making privacy settings like this. Then flipped the toggle for recommended in settings>personalization>start

I don't want Windows (or Microsoft) fishing through my traffic to show me relevant content, so that's a non-starter for me. :D I'm sure their idea of relevant is way different than mine! :rolleyes:

Sadly, it doesn't seem to work anymore. Windows version 24h2 (OS build 26100.4202).
Edit: Disabling each of these (PFA) under Privacy & Security > General have at least disabled the recommendations. The section itself (that reads recommended) is still pretty annoyingly active.
