Solved Can't update graphics driver


Actually, some manufactures will produce a driver update to solve the Memory Integrity enablement issue. Western Digital did it. However, that also depends on whether the hardware is still supported.

And for the record, Microsoft is not responsible for third party drivers. They only provide base drivers to ensure your basic hardware works when installing/loading Windows - monitors, drives, GPU for example.

Exactly, Microsoft drivers make the hardware work but not always expose all available features to the user or let tweak any settings. If you want all features available, maximum performance and the control panel to tweak settings, always prefer official drivers over Microsoft. I know, it is far easier to just run Windows Update and install drivers, but that is not the best.

Well I thought it was fixed after two bios updates and replacing the graphics driver. Seemed to be ok but it's still doing it occasionally - black screening. Usually on one of those web pages with a video automatically playing part way down the page - sometimes on other videos although most are ok.

As this only started in the last 2 or 3 months, I'm thinking of reinstalling from an image. I did add a video codec, when prompted at one time when one particular video said it needed it. I think it's since then the issues have occurred.

At least the bios update seems to have improved fan noise!

It looks like the last codec took priority of certain video types and affected your computer. There is a tool to restore the old codec priority. I don't know if you can find it separately, but in K-Lite codecs you launch the included Tweaker and you can select which splitter reads the video and separates the video and audio data, which codec should play each format of video or audio and which renderer will present these on screen. I had a similar issue when installing latest K-Lite codecs uninstalled the FFDShow part and any video I tried converting to H264 or H265 had a lot of lost frames and was too small in size. Once I downloaded the FFDShow separately and set these formats to be processed by FFDShow everything was back to normal.

Thanks yes I suspect it is this as never had any issues before. Currently I can't even play videos on certain web pages - only if I follow the link to youtube. It's annoying. I've just done a files back up so may restore an earlier image, update and reinstall files.

If you manage to restore the old codec using the Tweaker, you won't need to fo all these.

Ok. So I am now having the same graphics issues on a completely different computer on Windows 11. Again when scrolling a page with a lot of graphics - jumbled screen. Once stopping the browser, all graphics are blurring. It seems very strange to have the same thing on two different computers both on different operating systems. And this one is a new install (from factory settings). Both are HP but completely different models and graphics. Beginning to think it's a Windows thing.

Hp reckons I have the latest one. Windows reckons I have the latest one. If there is a later Intel one (I will check) why do HP and Windows not push it out?

Intel do have another one but the message has a warning and says - use an HP one if there's one available. HP only has drivers for Windows 10, not 11.

Yes, try the Intel anyway. All Windows 8 64-bit and Windows 10 64-bit drivers also work in Windows 11. Manufacturers don't always have the latest drivers on their site, that's why you must download the latest graphics drivers directly from Intel or nVidia or AMD. If the latest official driver fails, download latest from manufacturer or even Windows Update as a last resort.

The Intel one seems to work ok, thanks, but it's annoying HP don't list any drivers for Windows 11 for a 2 year old model. I've always tried to stick to manufacturer drivers.

When it comes to my graphics driver, I always get mine from Intel, not my OEM. The reason I go straight to the horse's mouth, (the horse being Intel), is sometimes it takes a long time for my OEM to post these drivers on their website. Since it seems the graphics driver causes more problems than any other driver, and with Win11 changing so often, I figure Intel is the one that is more in the know and who has the most appropriate graphics driver at any given time..
Bluetooth and wireless drivers on Intel's site are also way more current than what my OEM has listed.

Nvidia for the win. ^^
Whenever you buy comps... try to get Nvidia grfx.
They seem to have fewer issues with their drivers, than AMD or Intel.

    Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 15 years?
Many will probably disagree, but I prefer nVidia graphics over AMD. You may pay a little more but you get better performance. I also prefer Intel over AMD, even if most think Intel is dead. No it's not. It is one of the cases that you get what you pay for. Obviously not everyone paying a little more for an Intel system is stupid. Yes, AMD has more cores, but it lacks single core performance and most if my applications and old games I play benefit more from single core performance and hardly use more than a couple of cores. So I prefer Intel, sorry for the inconvenience.
