It's not going to be compatible. It's a 2nd generation, Sandy Bridge CPU, not supported. No TPM (unless it's disabled in the bios).

Regardless, this is too old to work with WIndows 11

I had it running on an old laptop similar to yours. Used Rufus 3.16 Extended Windows hack to make a bootable USB stick. It ran on that system, but much slower than W10. Only option was a clean install, so if you wish to attempt installing W11, make sure to do backups and disk images. If this is your primary machine, leave it as is.

I was wondering about that.

I have another pc but motherboard died, trying to get another motherboard. That one has i5 Intel, quad core. Have no idea if it has the other required components , would not know now as the HDD has been cleaned.

Thanks for the suggestions. I did make an image of my laptop/notebook using Macrium Reflect just in case.

Still one step at a time for me , like navigating unchartered waters.

Since you have a full OS image backup (and the bootable rescue media, I hope), I would try this... first.

Then use that, to do a clean install of Windows 11. If you run into problems, you can always use the bootable rescue media to restore from your backup.

Doing a clean install of Windows 11, means you won't have to mess around with converting MBR to GPT.
You will still have to go into the BIOS (hit the F2 key at boot), and set the "Boot Device" to either UEFI or UEFI and Legacy.

Where that is in your BIOS I have no idea. You will need to take some pics of the Boot tab, if you have one.
I found the Medion E6228 motherboard manual, but it doesn't show the BIOS settings. :(

Hi there

@bondy99

Try RUFUS V3.16 --

1) Get Windows 11 iso from UUPDUMP so hardware check missed via the MCT method
2) choose "W11 install bypassing TPM check etc" from the drop downs

You can always as well run perfectly good W11 as a VM - Virtualise the TPM and secure boot and it will run fine -- I've got a Virtual machine running on a non UEFI . no TPM, non sec boot machine with a lowly celeron processor working just perfectly -- VMWare / HYPER V / KVM all support this type of virtualisation.

There we are problems solved 2 ways. Q.E.D !!!!

-- Virtual machines can be quite efficient BTW.

Cheers
jimbo

I am not familiar with Virtual Machines , I only have a 500GB hard drive capacity on this notebook/laptop.

How much memory would the VM take as my device is not fast.
Thanks

That doesn't help. You need to go INTO your BIOS and take a few pics of what you see in there.
This is what my BIOS looks like to give you an idea....

Windows 11 wants to install to a GPT disk. However, if the BIOS isn't "set" to UEFI or UEFI and Legacy, then Windows 11 won't boot.
My BIOS won't look anything like yours, but it should give you some idea...

Image1.png

Image2.png

What you would be looking for in YOUR BIOS, is something similar to MY... Boot Device Control (in the bottom pic).
Where ever it is and whatever it's called, it needs to be set to UEFI or UEFI and Legacy, for Windows 11 to function.
Don't change it now...wait till right before you install Windows 11, or your Windows 10 (on MBR) won't boot.

For things to work properly, MBR disks have to be set to Legacy in the BIOS, and GPT disks have to be set to UEFI.

The screenshot of WhyNotWin11 in your 1st post, says the BIOS is set to Legacy and your hard drive is MBR (not GPT).
That will work for Windows 10 and below, but not for Windows 11.

When you do a clean install of Windows 11 it will automatically make your hard drive GPT.
So all you will need to do is set the BIOS to UEFI.

Your BIOS may already be set to UEFI and Legacy which will work with either MBR or GPT. But we need to "know" if that's the case.

What are the status of the important files?

If files are backed up to another disk drive or the cloud you can clean install Windows 11 on most computers.

And if you make a backup image you can restore the image in case you're not happy with Windows 11.

So many computers can clean install Windows 11 with any or all of these:
CPU not on the supported list
TPM 1.2 or no TPM
MBR partition structure
BIOS Legacy
etc.

Regarding the age of your hardware, see this thread for inspiration:

Some work better than others. These are all experiments considering old hardware that is below minimum requirements. So things that fail/don't work are to be expected if you proceed.

I have installed Windows 11 on a Ivy Bridge CPU without problems. You need to modify registry to bypass TPM while doing Fresh Install.

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 13 years?
@jimbo45
I am not familiar with Virtual Machines , I only have a 500GB hard drive capacity on this notebook/laptop.

How much memory would the VM take as my device is not fast.
@bondy99

In the Virtual Machines configuration (there's usually GUI's and "Easy set up Wizards" to create VM's)
set : RAM size 2GB should be enough but 4GB is better
For Disk storage space around 40 GB depending on what you need to install on the target Windows VM. You can also share data etc between HOST and VM.

The VM configuration files are done on the HOST machine.

Cheers

Thanks people, much appreciate guidance.

I did read somewhere someone mentioned that Windows 10 Home edition does not have full Hyper-V-Support.
I tried to install Windows 10 Pro on this device but it did not like it. From what I understand one needs to have at least Windows 10 Pro that has full Hyper-V-Support prior for Windows 11

I could install another HDD with bigger capacity and see if I can install Windows 10 Pro, I would have to track down the manufacturer's website of the motherboard to download drivers (if available).

My other pc has Windows10 Pro that I would normally use has a dead motherboard that needs replacing.
