Network and Internet Change OneDrive Sync Upload and Download Rate in Windows 11

This tutorial will show you how to change the OneDrive sync upload rate and download rate for your account in Windows 10 and Windows 11.

You can use OneDrive to sync files between your computer and the cloud, so you can get to your files from anywhere - your computer, your mobile device, and even through the OneDrive website at OneDrive.com. If you add, change, or delete a file or folder in your OneDrive folder, the file or folder is added, changed, or deleted on the OneDrive website and vice versa. You can work with your synced files directly in File Explorer and access your files even when you’re offline. Whenever you’re online, any changes that you or others make will sync automatically.

You can also back up your important folders (your Desktop, Documents, and Pictures folders) on your Windows PC with OneDrive folder backup syncing, so they're protected and available on other devices.

You can choose how much of your network bandwidth is used for OneDrive sync Upload rate and Download rate.

1 Click/tap on the OneDrive icon on the taskbar corner, click/tap on Help & Settings (gear) icon, and click/tap on Settings. (see screenshot below)


2 Click/tap on the Network tab. (see screenshot below)

If you are syncing work or school files and don't see the Network tab, the settings are managed by your IT department.

3 Select an option you want under Upload rate and Download rate, and click/tap on OK.

• Adjust automatically = This setting enables the OneDrive sync client (OneDrive.exe) to upload data in the background by only consuming unused bandwidth and not interfere with other applications using the network.
• Don't limit = This is the default setting to not limit your network bandwidth for OneDrive syncing.
• Limit to = You can limit the upload and download throughput to a fixed rate (the minimum rate is 50 KB/sec, and the maximum rate is 100,000 KB/sec). The lower the rate, the longer it will take your files to upload and download.

2 Click/tap on Sync and backup on the left pane, and click/tap on Advanced settings to expand open. (see screenshots below)

3 Perform the steps below:

• Turn on or off (default) Limit download ratefor what you want.
  • If you turned on Limit download rate, then expand it open, and enter a Limit to rate you want.
• Turn on or off (default) Limit upload ratefor what you want.
  • If you turned on Limit upload rate, then expand it open, and select (dot) Adjust automatically or Limit to for what you want.
  • If you selected Limit to, then enter a rate you want.

Off = This is the default setting to not limit your network bandwidth for OneDrive syncing.

Limit to = You can limit the upload and download throughput to a fixed rate (the minimum rate is 50 KB/sec, and the maximum rate is 100,000 KB/sec). The lower the rate, the longer it will take your files to upload and download.
