System Change Priority of Notifications in Notification Center in Windows 11

This tutorial will show you how to change the priority of notifications in notification center for your account in Windows 11.

Notifications are alerts from apps, system, and other senders.

Windows 11 shows notifications on the lock screen (Win+L), Notification Center (Win+N), and notification banners at the lower-right corner of the screen above the taskbar on the main display.

You can change the priority of notifications from apps for the order to show them in the notification center.

Priority of Notifications
Description
TopShow at the top of notification center.
HighShow above normal priority notifications in notification center.
NormalShow below high priority notifications in notification center.

Option One

Change Priority of Notifications in Notification Center in Settings


1 Open Settings (Win+I).

2 Click/tap on System on the left side, and click/tap on Notifications on the right side. (see screenshot below)

3 Under Notifications from apps and other senders, click/tap on the app (ex: "Messages (via Phone Link)") you want to change the priority of notifications for. (see screenshot below)

4 Under Priority of notifications in notification center, select Top, High or Normal (default) for the priority you want for this app. (see screenshot below)

5 If you selected Top priority, click/tap on Confirm to replace the current top priority app (ex: "Wireless Display") with this app. (see screenshot below)

6 When finished setting the priority of notifications for apps, you can close Settings if you like.




Option Two

Change Priority of Notifications in Notification Center


1 Open the Notification Center (Win+N).

2 Click/tap on the Settings (3 dots) button on the title bar of the app you want to change the priority for. (see screenshot below)

3 Click/tap on Make <app> high priority (high) or Remove priority for <app> (normal) for which is available. (see screenshots below)

Option Three

Change Priority of Notifications in Notification Center in Registry Editor


1 Open Registry Editor (regedit.exe).

2 Navigate to the key location below in the left pane of Registry Editor. (see screenshot below)

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Notifications\Settings

3 Under the Settings key in the left pane, click/tap on the app (ex: "Microsoft.YourPhone_8wekyb3d8bbwe!YourPhoneMessages") you want to change the priority of notifications for. (see screenshot above)

4 Go to step 5 (Top), step 6 (High), or step 7 (Normal) for the priority you want for this app.

5 Set Top Priority

A) In the right pane of the app's key (ex: "Microsoft.YourPhone_8wekyb3d8bbwe!YourPhoneMessages"), double click/tap on the Rank DWORD value to modify it. (see screenshot below step 2)​

If you do not have a Rank DWORD, then right click or press and hold on an empty area in the right pane, click/tap on New, click/tap on DWORD (32-bit) Value, type Rank for the name, and press Enter.


B) Select (dot) Decimal, type 99 for the Value data, and click/tap on OK. (see screenshot below)​

C) You will now need to find and change any other app currently set to Top priority to either be High or Normal instead.​

D) Go to step 8 when finished.​

6 Set High Priority

A) In the right pane of the app's key (ex: "Microsoft.YourPhone_8wekyb3d8bbwe!YourPhoneMessages"), double click/tap on the Rank DWORD value to modify it. (see screenshot below step 2)​

If you do not have a Rank DWORD, then right click or press and hold on an empty area in the right pane, click/tap on New, click/tap on DWORD (32-bit) Value, type Rank for the name, and press Enter.


B) Type 1 for the Value data, and click/tap on OK. (see screenshot below)​

C) Go to step 8 when finished.​

7 Set Normal Priority

This is the default setting.


A) In the right pane of the app's key (ex: "Microsoft.YourPhone_8wekyb3d8bbwe!YourPhoneMessages"), right click or press and hold on the Rank DWORD value, and click/tap on Delete. (see screenshot below step 2)​

If you do not have a Rank DWORD, then the priority for this app is already set to Normal. Go to step 8.


B) Click/tap Yes to confirm. (see screenshot below)​

C) Go to step 8 when finished.​


8 When finished, you can close Registry Editor if you like.
