Personalization Change Start Menu All apps View in Windows 11

This tutorial will show you how to change the view layout of the All apps section on the Start menu for your account in Windows 11.

The Start menu in Windows 11 is comprised of three sections: Pinned, Recent, and All apps.

The All apps section on the Start menu shows all your installed apps in either a Category, Grid, or List view. With All now on the top-level, apps are easily accessible without having to navigate to a secondary page. The new default Category view automatically groups your apps by category for quick access to your most used categories and apps. So, if your most used apps are Outlook and Solitaire, you can expect those apps to bubble up to the top in their respective categories. Categories are formed when there are at least 3 apps in each respective category. Otherwise, they will remain in the “Other” category. Grid view is ordered alphabetically like List view but allows for better scanning of all your installed apps with more horizontal real estate. The Start menu will remember your last used view so you can reliably launch your apps with the view you prefer most.

Option One

Change Start Menu All apps View in Start Menu


1 Open the Start menu :win:.

2 Under All on the Start menu, click/tap on View. (see screenshot below)

3 Click/tap on Category (default), Grid, or List in the View drop menu for what you want to use.

Option Two

Change Start Menu All apps View using REG file


1 Do step 2 (category), step 3 (grid), or step 4 (list) below for which view you want for All Apps.

2 Use Category View for All Apps on Start Menu

This is the default setting.


A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 5 below.​

5 Save the .reg file to your desktop.

6 If you have Smart App Control turned on, you will need to unblock the downloaded REG file.

7 Double click/tap on the downloaded .reg file to merge it.

8 When prompted, click/tap on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.

9 You can now delete the downloaded .reg file if you like.

I have tried it and it does not seem to work, some of the id's listed above do not seem to be in the dictionary

Try enabling id:49453572 as well for the new start menu. There are additional codes if you want the new phone link side bar with the new menu as well.

I will try it for a while, but it looks as though when opened the new start menu takes up a lot more real estate. I already had the phone link side bar from a previous Windows Update, but it disappeared after applying this ?

Yeah I should have mentioned the size, some don't care for that lol. You will need these codes for the NEW side bar vivetool /enable /id:55495322,49381526,49820095 . I also will point out a bug using the new 25H2 start menu, if you go into safe mode your start button and menu may not function in safe mode if you have this menu enabled. Just something to be aware of.

Added the phone link back onto the task bar (I find it pretty useful, I can text from my pc without my phone) but now my start menu takes up half my screen when opened :look:

Guess I shouldn't complain, at my age as bad as my eyes are it make things a lot easier to read and find :p

I think it's more a matter of adjusting to change from what we're used too now. Who knows what the final version will look like though. I do like having all my pinned apps visible in one menu view though and just being able to scroll down through all apps.

I can't get the new menu to work. When I execute the command: vivetool /enable /id:49402389,48433719,47205210,49221331,49453572
I get this answer:

Your using the command prompt not powershell correct and have switched to your Vivetool installation location? You can also try the Vivetool GUI app which works well also.

Hello, :alien:

ViVeTool works in all Insider channels, but it's whether the feature ID is available or not to enable for the channel instead.

The new Start Menu is not officially available yet in the RP channel, but you can still test enabling it without issue.

Yup, I've enabled and been using the new Start Menu on two RP build computers for a while now. Just beware the new Start Menu won't function if you boot into Safe Mode.

Test using the command without the path wrapped in quotes. In addition, make sure there's not any extra spaces in or at the end of the command.
