Changing System Files.

Speaking personally, my answer would be I would never take the chance of completely borking my system for the sake of what my icons looked like
Especially when there is free or paid software that can do that for you.

I think I've seen you advising somebody about editing the system's .mun icon files recently.
Perhaps you could help Bug locker.

Yeah, I recently explained it in this post here: New Version of ExplorerPatcher
I don't recommend to try such an intrusive hack on any Windows installation if the goal is to continue to still use it normally after. Extensive testing might still not be sufficient. (Even, if it does turn out that this hack has no real apparent side effects that could be detrimental somehow.)

IIRC, as soon as this file is deleted by running the del command, the file automatically re-appears almost immediately. When I experimented with these commands in Powershell a few years ago, I was running them one by one. So, if the goal is to put the commands in a script, you might find that you need to add a wait loop that causes the copy command to be delayed until the file has re-appeared after the del command. Also IIRC, the copy command failed to copy the file if the del command was skipped. The behavior was "slightly un-intuitive". Actually this file is not a "regular" file, as it is a hardlink that also appears in a subfolder of the WinSxS folder.

Also note that Windows automatic maintenance periodically scans system files for possible corruptions, which causes them to be automatically repaired where possible. Other situations might also occur where the original file gets put back into place. Even so, you could always decide to add a task in Task Scheduler that automatically re-applies the hack, so as to work around the recurring problem [of the hack getting undone systematically when you don't want it to be undone].

i want to change the default folder icon

I think hdmi's link will be worth having a look at.
There have been several discussions about changing shell32.dll.mun & imageres32.dll.mun here & in TenForums.
- It was in Windows 10 that the change from imageres32.dll etc to imageres32.dll.mun etc started.
- Whilst icons appear to be in imageres32.dll etc, they are actually in imageres32.dll.mun etc.
- The .mun files are in C:\Windows\SystemResources
- Things did keep getting confused in TenForums discussions because, as we eventually recognised, the changeover to mun files was being done gradually in successive Windows updates so we were not all looking at the same things. This might also be the case in Windows 11 for all I know.

Some people referred to the tool Customizer god which I think has been mentioned in this thread as well.
