Apps Check for App Updates via Windows Update in Windows 11

This tutorial will show you how to check for app updates in Settings via Windows Update in Windows 11.

The App Updates page is no longer available in Settings.

Starting with Windows 11 build 26220.7344 (Dev & Beta), the Unified Update Orchestration Platform (UOP) is starting to roll out. UOP makes app updates more consistent and predictable, with fewer interruptions. Insiders will see a new page in Settings > Apps > App Updates, where they can check update progress and take action if needed.

How it Works
  • Apps will register with UOP via APIs.
  • UOP triggers a registered app to scan, download and install updates based on user activity and system state.
  • Apps continue to utilize their own backend for acquiring updates.
  • Apps report update status back to UOP, so users can see it in the App Updates page.
Availability

No apps utilize UOP yet because the feature is new, but apps will start using it over time. The feature is partially enabled for Dev and Beta Channel Insiders today and will reach full enablement in these channels soon. API documentation will follow.

If you don't have the App updates feature in the Dev & Beta build above yet and want to try it now, then you can use the ViVeTool command below to enable this feature.

vivetool.exe /enable /id:58988972

Here's How:

1 Open Settings (Win+I).

2 Click/tap on Apps on the left side, and click/tap on App updates on the right side. (see screenshot below)

App_updates-1.webp

3 Click/tap on Check for updates. (see screenshot below)

That's it,
Shawn Brink

Very good feature indeed! Hope more and more applications can register with this feature.

Basically a GUI for winget. It would have been nice to still use winget before switching as many apps are supported on winget now.

Was the feature removed? Let me explain: I was on the DEV channel, build 26220.7535, but due to problems with Windows activation status and numerous rollbacks, I decided to switch to the beta channel and install build 26220.7755. Since the App Updates setting is no longer available, I activated ID 58988972 via ViveTool, restarted, and the setting is still missing. Could the feature have been removed in the latest builds?

Hello, :alien:

It sure does look like it has been removed. I don't have it available anymore either.

I am still on Win 11 25H2 Build 26200. And in Windows Settings > Apps I cannot see the App Updates option. I get to see Apps, Advanced App Settings, etc. Please see the screenshot given below for more details. Do I have to wait for Windows to be updated to the appropriate build? Can I do something to get the "App Updates" as shown in the post above?

The function doesn't work, so it's pointless at the moment

Hello, :alien:

It sure does look like it has been removed. I don't have it available anymore either.
On which channel? It's surprising that the removal wasn't documented in the Insider blog, or is it a build bug?
