This tutorial will show you how to check the current version of Windows Package Manager (WinGet) you have installed in Windows 10 and Windows 11.

The winget command line tool enables users to discover, install, upgrade, remove and configure applications on Windows 10 and Windows 11 computers. This tool is the client interface to the Windows Package Manager service.

Windows Package Manager winget command-line tool is already available on Windows 11 and modern versions of Windows 10 as a part of the App Installer.

Here's How:

1 Open Windows Terminal, and select either Windows PowerShell or Command Prompt.

2 Copy and paste either command below into Windows Terminal, and press Enter. (see screenshots below)

winget -v​

OR​

winget --version​

3 The current version (ex: "1.7.10861") of winget will now get returned.

I think it updates itself.
I just checked my version and it's.... 1.9.25200 ...which is the latest non-Pre-release version.

And the only time I installed Winget was in March 2023.

Yes, those are release versions. What I was asking was about the Preview versions mentioned in Windows 11 News like the post that @OAT mentioned which goes to: 1.10.40-preview. I was on v1.9.25200 a few minutes ago.

I like to wait till the pancakes are done, before I eat them. 8-)

Winget actually is installed by Windows 10/11 by default as it's part of App Installer which is updated by Microsoft Store as mentioned in the Install Winget in the link below as I had never installed the winget manually. I mean my system is already on Windows Beta Insiders so just wanted to see if the new winget is any better as it's confused about .NET Framework 7 and 8 when I already have the latest release version installed but it's listing the older version and saying the one I have installed is available as a update.

    Acer will not allow WD Black SN8100 to function in m.2 slot 0 and Crucial T710 ssd's to function in either slot.
Here is what is strange, winget -v shows it has the latest version v1.11.510 but UniGetUI (formerly WingetUI) keeps thinking I have a older version v1.10.340....

I also have two 0 byte sized winget.exe files...

It seems like even if I delete the 1.26.430.0 and then uninstall, then use the msixbundle which installs 1.26.430.0 and then Microsoft Store will update it to 1.26.510.0, I will still end up with both a 1.26.430.0 and 1.26.510.0 on the system as it's not deleting the older folder when it installs the newer version.

This seems to happen when there is a mix up between installations [.exe, .msi, msixbundle] and how they are updated,
The only solution that works for me is to look for every instance of , in your case, 1.10.340 , in the registry and delete the corresponding key.
(Pressing F3 will take you to the next instance.)

The one UnigetUI complains about is the Powershell Module not the msixbundle or what's downloaded in Microsoft Store. UnigetUI also complains about Discord being a older version but that seems to be a well known Discord issue as it does not report the correct version unless you ran the installer to reinstall it.

Have a question for @Brink - did the PowerShell modules get installed when PowerShell is installed as I never installed any PowerShell modules, only been installing the different PowerShell v7 versions and do the modules get automatically updated or how does one update them? Thanks Shawn!

They should get updated with any PowerShell update via the Microsoft Store.

Thanks @Brink, I never use the Microsoft Store method for updating PowerShell as the Microsoft Store version is more restrictive from reading the different methods available. So I always use the .msi method instead.
