The domain registrar is normally unaffiliated with the hosting provider (unless it's GoDaddy, which profits from both sides of the business). Just because you own a TLD, doesn't mean you're a tech powerhouse. For example, .tv (Tuvalu) is a tiny Pacific island.

tracert www.uup.ee -> 15.204.10.93

This website is hosted by OVH (US), presumably in their USA datacenter located outside of Washington DC. That's not in China, but that doesn't give you a clue who owns it because the Estonian registrar has made it private. Use this site at your own risk. The whole point of DNS is someone can rapidly switch out this site at any moment.

So much paranoia here.

If these sites were as bad as some of the doom and naysayers here - doesn't one think there would already have been a load of comments.

Concentrate more on typical scams which are far more insidious and can cost the unwary a lot of money.

For example instead of blinding ordinary domestic users with scares about rootkits, CPU vulnerabilities, etc and urging them to install loads of extra in appropriate anti virus software -- how about writing some sort of A.I which can catch common scams. One that was going the rounds recently was an email no less from a lawyer, another service provider one had asked for services from etc saying Bank account has changed -- please pay into new bank account xxxxxx.

The first thing any sensible AI would come up with as soon as user reads the email should be ---warning -- have you checked with original bank and service provider. - No amount of complex A/V software will root this stuff out but it's of much more concern to domestic users. Let the "techies" do all the other stuff about getting INTEL etc or whatever to fix possible CPU vulnerabilities -- most domestic computer users in a lifetime of using windows won't ever get bothered with malware, viruses or whaever.

(OK if you share computers with kids who download all sorts of rubbish from who knows where -- another story but if you set a decent proxy on your wifi that minimizes that risk -- but assuming it's just a basic "mom and pop" type machine -- no probs).

cheers
