Hi,

Performed 1st clean install of W11 myself...
Didn't have to unplug the bootable USB, since boot options are HDD 1st. Have to tap F12 to get back into USB.

Took me approx 35mins.

Queries

1. Desktop default icons like my computer, control panel are missing. Which when the tech installed were there?

2. Partitioned during install 204,000 MB for windows and the rest ..

3. On install I see C: 199.1 GB. And None other drive.

When the tech performed clean install thrice, always saw the D as bitlock encrypted and a few more desktop icons?

Care to explain what did I do incorrect...

Anyways gaining confidence, like my 1st day after med school....

Thanks.

They are not there by default, but you can add them. To choose your desktop icons, go to Settings > Personalization > Themes and click on Desktop icon settings, it's under Related settings near the bottom.

If you cannot see your D: partition, it may just be that it hasn't been assigned a drive letter yet. Click on Start, type disk management. Run 'Create and format hard disk partitions' from the list you'll get. Right-click on the partition and select 'Change drive Letter and Paths' to give it the D: letter.

Why did you make a second partition? I thought you were trying to eliminate the drive from having two partitions. All you had to do was delete all the partitions when running the installer and let the installer create the partitions that are needed for Windows.

Thanks for your expert input. The tech called for some med advice, after which I told him about my 1st install and these issues.

To which he replied the same. Go to themes> Desktop icons.

For the space, disk management > add.

Now have both C and D

He said you could squeeze/ shrink space from D, but I won't recommend to have a complete 200 GB

He suggested, while install give all to windows and then accordingly shrink to exact 200;GB....less chance of errors.

Thanks.

...and a lot of experience, and a growing confidence. It's a good learning curve.

Can I ask you a few questions:

It took me 20 mins to clean install, and 40 mins to get updated and drivers etc.

1. The task bar look a little more in width. Read a notification search for display drivers.
But all are upto date as per Windows updates.
It's Intel iRISx graphics.
Should I check the Dell website for it's display driver?

2. Size of disk 476 GB, occupied 33.3 GB, available 442 GB. No name. Type: local disk. File system NTFS.

Using disk management how can I add another partition, leaving 200 vs. 442 to the W11 present?

Can I name it W11 21H2?
Other as D: Data?

Thanks again!

I think in Disk Management you right click on the drive and select Shrink Volume. Then you select the size you want. I'm going to test on a spare USB drive.

I just shrunk the volume on a spare USB drive. Right click on the drive and select Shrink Volume > choose the size of the new volume (size is in MB and not GB) > Shrink. Then click on the unallocated volume and select New Simple Volume and follow the wizard.

Thanks. What would 200 GB be equivalent to in MBs.

I don't have the Intel graphics driver installed but the MS one, no wonder the task bar width is more and in device manager have MS basic display adapter.

Don't know how the tech guy got it installed?

Thanks again.

...and a lot of experience, and a growing confidence. It's a good learning curve.

Clicked on update driver > search from the net..iRIS (R) Xe Graphics got installed. Driver date 6/24/2021.

No shadow on snipping tool, but the task manager looks a bit higher, slightly more in vertical...

You're expert thoughts.
Thanks.

Thanks. What would 200 GB be equivalent to in MBs.

I don't have the Intel graphics driver installed but the MS one, no wonder the task bar width is more and in device manager have MS basic display adapter.

Don't know how the tech guy got it installed?

Thanks again.
200 GB would be 200000 MB.

I just shrunk the volume on a spare USB drive. Right click on the drive and select Shrink Volume > choose the size of the new volume (size is in MB and not GB) > Shrink. Then click on the unallocated volume and select New Simple Volume and follow the wizard.
Incorrect....200000 made C 280.92 GB and D 195.31 GB

I had some idea, thought 1GB=100025MB Wanted to confirm.

Thanks.

There are two ways they measure a MB. It can be either 1024 KB or 1000 KB. It depends on what system you use.

I deleted D. Then extended C to the unallocated space and got back.

Thanks for suggesting 20000 MB, it made me learn disk management. Creating, deleting, merging...
