I was looking at this:

M.2 Adapter card.png

My concern is that it's technology from 2000, so it's four years old. I'm not concerned about the ethernet, I'm looking at the M.2 expansion. Any idea if there's something comparable and less expensive out there?

That's likely what I'm going to have to get. The only open PCIe slot I have does not support bifurcation. It's also a 3.0 slot. Of course, I'm a little dense. I totally forgot my MB has 3 M.2 slots. I'm only using two! 😬

That was a short-lived decision. I checked our bank account. My wife, who like to play around with her looks, just bought an expensive wig. Since she never checks the credit card, this was a no brainer! 😬

It is possible to download and use UEFITool, and that can tell whether your mobo UEFI supports bifurcation. AMD provide a guide on how you can do that with an AMD motherboard:

The tool tells whether the UEFI supports: x8/x8, or x8/x4/x4 or x4/x4/x4/x4m, and PCIE 4x4 can be found hidden behind "Supress" - whatever that is reference to. You'd need to use tool to find out.
