I do have paint.net but I did get Photoshop for the AI generation for backgrounds. Real photo, changed creative backgrounds. It's just for an annual advent calendar with Christmas effects really. Before that I used to use Kvad Photo Pro from the App store, but it stopped working a couple of years ago. Photoshop was maybe a bit of an overkill but it had much better effects! And it was kind of fun. I'm not keen on AI generated pictures normally, but when you have a good photo and just want a scene with special effects, the AI generation fill works well. It's quite clever.

I could just do the advent calendar early this year - my subscription ends mid November. But then without an existing membership I'd have to pay full price if I ever wanted again - as opposed to half price if I renew. But half price is still a bit much.

If you know of any other programs that do good special effects and backgrounds for photos (eg PIP effects) I'd be interested to try it - but I did get quite hooked on generating backgrounds.
