i'm using the recommended scale and resolution.
MS did not release any fix for that problem yet.
The same is also happening with latest Canary Build 25982 on Oct 25, 2023.
What is you display resolution and scale?
It works for me when I use the recommended Resolution and Scale, but I also have to leave the right side of the screen without any Icon, with enough space to accommodate the Copilot flyout.
I can give you a couple of samples for the case that fails and the case that works.

This case fails because the Scale is not the recommended one.
My normal desktop layout:

Screwed up when I open Copilot, see the mess below:
1698296954592.png
The recommended Scale is 300%, which is ridiculous and not acceptable for this screen, which is set for 150%. 😵‍💫😵‍💫😂🤷‍♂️

im using the recommended scale and resolution.
Here is a second example that works as it should. Resolution and Scale are Both the Recommended ones, as you can see on the bottom screenshot. 150% Scale with UHD Resolution 3840 x 2160.
I also tested with standard 1920 x 1080 and got the same results. Only works with recommended Scale and with the empty right part of the screen with no desktop icons to accommodate the Copilot. So much for MS testing! 😂😂😂🤐

Open Copilot does not affect the desktop layout in this case. All icons remain in the same place.

That is a weird combination of Scale and resolution. 🤣
I have several machines, and the only way I can get it to work is by using the recommended settings for both Scale and Resolution and only if I leave the right side of the screen without any icons in the area where the stupid Copilot sidebar opens.
It screws up the layout with any other combinations. 😝😵‍💫

Seems to be also related to the type of Display I use. On this display it works with your Resolution. 🤷‍♂️
This monitor is a Z- EDGE. If I use a different monitor, it does not work. 😵‍💫

The same machine that works with the Z-EDGE monitor fails when I use a Samsung instead.

MS has a major bug with this B.S. of Copilot Sidebar.
Good luck waiting for a proper fix, I reported this problem months ago and they barely acknowledged it.
Now they made a collection of the FBH reports, but I doubt they will get a fix soon.
The had the same problem of messing up the desktop layout when using autohide of the taskbar, reported over a year ago, and they still did not fix that one either. 🤣🤣🤣

Maybe next year, but I doubt they know what they are doing with this stupid Windows Copilot.
I gave up on that one, it fails with every Build Canary, Dev, Beta, R.P. and Public build. 😝😝
I use the one in Edge if I really want to use A.I. (aka Absolute Idiocy). 🤣🤣🤣🤣😝🤷‍♂️

With Canary Build 25992 they added a pin/unpin button in the copilot side pane.
When the unpinned option is used it leaves the desktop layout alone and it can be used as a workaround for the original bug.
It still makes the same mess when the pinned option is used, but at least there is a way out from the original bug. 😂😂😉
