Hi All,
Every so often I check the ASUS web site to see if any updates for my Z270 MB and i7-7700k CPU.
Today I seen the Bios file 1501 with date 2021/9/3 and I downloaded it. In the 'Description' it says support Windows 11. Not sure if that is a update to prepare it for the Windows 11 or not. Attaching a pic to show you.
Would greatly appreciate some input from others here who know more.

These BIOS updates that Asus are now pushing out are the same BIOS that the old ones, except they have enabled certain features in the BIOS by default that normally are disabled. If your current BIOS is newer than the file you were looking at then you can not flash this BIOS. You should instead go into your current BIOS settings and enable the features that Windows 11 requires.

If you have an older BIOS installed, then you can upgrade to this BIOS if you want to.

I have a similar motherboard Asrock Z270 Taichi and Intel i7-7700K processor.
But I didn't find any new drivers.
In any case, intel 7700k is not supported (though I have installed Win 11 on it), so no idea if it passes the windows checklist.
In any case, flashing the BIOS is fraught with risk of bricking the motherboard, you would know about it !
Hope other members with better experience will chip in and advise !

Thanks for the replies. I was just curious and I do have the features enabled. Each time I boot into Win11 preview it still shows cpu not eligible so no change there. Win11 runs smooth though and I get all updates.

Yeah, 7700k and most other 7th generation and older Intel CPUs are not put on Windows 11 compatibility list. Same goes for AMD 1st generation Ryzen and older CPUs.

I am rocking Windows 11 on my laptop (see my computer specs) and only thing is missing is MS supporting the CPU. The rest of the requirements are fulfilled. Have not had many issues at all.

Latest information in the wild is that Microsoft will not stop any non "compliant "System from manually installing Windows 11, even after the official launch date, but they will not support it

updates may need to be manually applied

Couldn't you, in theory, just do all of the updates manually? IE,, Install CAB files etc yourself and keep the device up to date?

My desktop is fully compatible (Z390 with an i9 9900K) but my Dell Inspiron 15 Gaming 5577 laptop is in the "I hope Microsoft includes it" category. It has TPM 2.0 and Direct X 12 graphics but an i5 7300HQ CPU.

Yes of course, It may be that it will be supported for the basic updates as they would not depend on the security items being present - and Microsoft will have them available for download, and they've said they'll not stop the installers maybe an In-place install of the latest .ISO each month may do the job - of course they will not include any updates for your processor if they are not supported

True.. I was thinking about this earlier and an in place upgrade might do the trick. Installing an OS or any software on an incompatible device makes little sense to me but hey.. some love to experiment.

The BIOS update has nothing to do with making your CPU compatible with Windows 11. Your motherboard board can be compatible after the BIOS update but the CPU is a separate component on a different compatibility category. You may still be able to install Windows 11, but it may remain incompatible after wincheck. It is just a technicality but as long as it runs Windows 11, that's all that matters.

Reading these posts I think I will wait maybe a week or so before installing Win11 Pro over my Win10 Pro. Reformatting etc if something goes wrong is no big deal for me anyways. I usually do a clean install once a year just to have a fresh OS :) I am thinking some may run into errors with install when Win11 is released to public. That said, I may not be able to wait hehehehe. But we shall see :)

All you need is a macrium backup image. If anything goes wrong, then you can restore the Win10 image back like nothing happened.
